American procedural crime-drama, 'Tommy', first premiered on February 7. The CBS series created by Paul Attanasio concluded on May 7 after 12 episodes. Similar to every other crime procedure, 'Tommy' also revolved around solving cases, the functioning of law enforcement agencies and courtroom drama. However, 'Tommy' was met with critical reviews which left its future on television uncertain. Here's what we know so far about the renewal of the CBS series for Season 2.

Where we left off

The first season of 'Tommy' followed former high-ranked NYPD officer Abigail "Tommy" Thomas played by Edie Falco, who becomes the first female chief of police for Los Angeles by accepting Mayor Gray's offer. The character was portrayed as a lesbian, notorious for accusing her senior of sexual misconduct. The procedural drama navigated the life of the LAPD chief as she and her team worked towards resolving heinous crimes in the city. The rest of the cast of 'Tommy' comprised Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, Olivia Lucy Phillip, Vladimir Caamano and Thomas Sadoski.

What we'd like to see

Four months after the original season concluded, CBS announced that the series was canceled. Therefore, 'Tommy' will not be returning with Season 2. The first season holds an approval rating of 65% on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 5.67/10. The website's critical review for 'Tommy' reads, "Though its tendency to settle for obvious answers doesn't do it any favors, Tommy remains a decent procedural thanks to a few twists and the endlessly watchable Edie Falco." Meanwhile, the crime procedural drama has garnered "mixed or average reviews" on Metacritic.

When is it returning?

'Tommy' will not be returning with a new season, despite the commendable performance by Falco. However, fans of the show have noted on social media that they would love to see the CBS series make a comeback with yet another season. A significant number of them seem disappointed with the network for canceling a female-led show that had the potential to perform well.

One fan tweeted, "Did you see that many shows with strong women leads were cancelled from CBS no matter where they were in the rankings. They had a lots of shows ended so they didn't have to cancel Tommy". And another wrote, "@CBS Will you please bring back Tommy for another season? I really enjoyed the show and would like it to come back. Now if the perfect time for it. Thank you."
