Tom Holland reveals why 'saint' Zendaya 'had a lot to put up with' during filming of 'The Crowded Room'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Holland candidly acknowledges that his hair transformation for the Apple TV+ series 'The Crowded Room' wasn't exactly fabulous. The 27-year-old actor discussed the experience of adopting a '70s look for the show and how it spilled over into his personal life.
Fortunately, Holland revealed that his girlfriend, Zendaya, took it in stride and was supportive of his temporary new appearance. In a recent interview with Radio Times, Holland openly discussed the less-than-desirable hairstyle he donned in the series set in 1979. The actor acknowledged the unfortunate nature of his character's hair and its authenticity to the time period.
'Zendaya had a lot to put up with'
Holland's character, Danny Sullivan, wears a dark brown hairstyle with long curls that appears intentionally unkempt, which fits his ambiguous role as "may or may not be a murderer." In real life, however, the hairstyle doesn't exactly look stunning. Even Holland's bright smile can't quite make up for the unconventional look. Speaking about his character's appearance, Holland said, "I feel like Zendaya is a saint for putting up with my hair for as long as she did."

"Obviously I had that crazy hairstyle," Holland said. "I had the bangs. Bless Zendaya, she had a lot to put up with, with me looking like that for 10 months, it was rough." "I don't like my hair being that dark," the 'Spider-Man' actor continued. "I really like how my hair is like my mum's, kind of red. Yeah, it was tough. That was a part of the show that I don't miss for sure."
Tom Holland on how 'The Crowded Room' affected his personal life
Holland's involvement in 'The Crowded Room' where he not only starred but also took on the role of a producer, proved to be an enlightening journey for him. The experience had a profound impact on the actor, and he has openly acknowledged the ways in which it affected him personally and professionally. "I think a large reason for that is when you make a film, it only takes four months and that would be considered a long film. But 'The Crowded Room,' it’s 10 months of playing this character, day in and day out. I really did find myself kind of morphing with him in certain moments," he said.
"In my career, I've always felt like I've been very good at leaving work at work, and for the first time with 'The Crowded Room' it really did start bleeding into my personal life," he explained to RadioTimes. "I would come home from work and I would see myself in the mirror and I would see him. So it did take a while to figure out how to put him to bed and wake Tom up and get on with my life and be myself."
Tom Holland's 'The Crowded Room' premiered on June 9, 2023, on Apple TV+, where he stars alongside Emmy Rossum and Amanda Seyfried.
