LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise won the ‘Best Performance in a Movie' at the 2023 MTV Awards and it seems like fans are bemused. After his Oscars snub, Cruise achieved this feat for the blockbuster action movie, 'Top Gun: Maverick'. His absence at the Oscars this year definitely didn't go unnoticed, and while it was reported he was filming the new 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part II', rumors pointed to there being more to the story, including drama with his ex-Nicole Kidman.

Although Tom Cruise didn't win any Oscars in 2023, he and the film 'Top Gun: Maverick' had a successful premiere at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Cruise won the 'Best Performance in a Movie' trophy for his reprisal as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and decided to celebrate that in a very special way. In his acceptance video, Cruise was filmed soaring high in a military jet with the popcorn-covered trophy seated behind him as co-pilot.

However, this is not Cruise's first MTV Awards win as he has achieved the feat of ‘Best Male Performance’ twice before - once in 1997 for ‘Jerry Maguire’ and again in 2001 for ‘Mission: Impossible 2’. In 2005, he also received the prestigious ‘Generation Award’.

‘I love entertaining you’

The 60-year-old ‘Mission Impossible’ star, who is notoriously known for giving awards shows a miss said in his acceptance speech video, "Thank you so much for this award," and added, "I make these films for you. I love you. I love entertaining you. To know how much you enjoy it, how much you appreciate it, there's just no better feeling."

Then terming his 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One', a "wild ride,” the star continued, "You have a wonderful summer. Thank you again for letting me entertain you. It's an absolute privilege. We'll see you at the movies."

'He’s the funniest man alive'

After the actor's Oscars snub, the Internet found it bizarre that the actor was putting in effort for the MTV Awards. One Internet user tweeted, "FUNNIEST SHIT IVE EVER SEEN HE DIDN'T CARE A BIT ABOUT OTHER AWARDS BUT MADE A WHOLE ASS VID IN HIS P-51 FOR MTV MOVIE AWARDS. HE'S SO FUNNY." One fan sarcastically wrote, "Doing all this for the MTV Movie Awards is so.." A third user said, "How many others did he churn out in that flight haha." Another social media user could not help but be a fan, "Did all this for the mtv movie awards but didn’t go to the oscars he’s the funniest man alive that’s a goddamn movie star right there do you hear me."
