'Put your manners back in': Tom Cruise once slammed reporter for questions about ex-wife Nicole Kidman
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In the 1990s, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were one of Hollywood's power couples. But even after they broke up in 2001, they remained professional and respectful to one another in public despite the breakdown of their relationship. The 'Mission Impossible' actor is on a wave of promotions for his latest movie and has been quite accommodating of the press. But there was one time when he snapped back at the line of questioning by a Aussie journalist.
Cruise once chastised a reporter while doing press in Australia for asking too many questions about Kidman. Similarly, Kidman was once asked a "sexist" question during the promotional interview for her movie 'Being the Ricardos', alleging that Kidman was still "in love" with Cruise. The two exes dislike being pictured together or even talking about their time spent together as is evidenced by these and many more instances.

'You're stepping over the line'
Tom Cruise discussed his Scientology views and celebrity life in an interview with '60 Minutes Australia' in June 2005. Journalist Peter Overton questioned Cruise about his ex-wife Nicole Kidman several times during the interview, as per INSIDER. The couple had two children before divorcing in 2001.
In the course of the conversation, Cruise felt that the questions had gotten out of line. The famous actor, best known for his performance in 'Mission: Impossible' franchise, stated his concern in response to the increasingly invasive questions from Overton: "You're stepping over the line now. You're stepping over the line. You know you are."
To this, Overton justified that he was seeking information for the public to know. And Cruise further responded: "Peter, you want to know. Take responsibility for what you want to know. Don't say what other people. This is a conversation that I'm having with you right? I'm just telling you right now, OK. Just put your manners back in."
Although Overton immediately expressed regret for the question, he remarked on 'The Kyle and Jackie O Show' in 2020 that he didn't regret asking it.
Nicole Kidman blasted reporter for 'sexist' questions
In a similar incident, at a 'Being the Ricardos' promotion event, Kidman, 55, was asked a potentially 'sexist' question by a British tabloid, that claimed Kidman was still "in love" with Cruise. The actress was explaining how Desi Arnaz and Lucy Ball's romance developed throughout the movie. The reporter instantly brought up Cruise and asked if she was talking about her relationship with her ex-husband.
The 'Big Little Lies' star was incensed by the "sexist question," and she said, "Oh, my God, no, no. Absolutely not. No. I mean, that’s, honestly, so long ago that it isn’t in this equation. So, no." The Oscar-winning actress continued: "I would ask not to be pigeonholed that way, either. It feels to me almost sexist because I’m not sure anyone would say that to a man. And at some point, you go, ‘Give me my life. In its own right," per The Guardian.
Tom Cruise is prepping for 'Mission: Impossible 7'
As 'Mission: Impossible 7' is set to hit theaters in July, Tom Cruise is currently wrapping up the film. Radar Online said that the 'Top Gun: Maverick' star is fraying everyone's nerves by driving the project to the absolute limit in terms of deadlines and scheduling. The movie's ending has yet to be shot, edited, and redesigned. Even though 'Mission: Impossible 7' is not finished yet and won't be released for another two months, 'Mission: Impossible 8' is being shot simultaneously, as reported by MEAWW.
