Tom Cruise skipped Oscars to avoid AWKWARD encounter with ex-wife Nicole Kidman
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise was noticeably absent from the 2023 Oscars on Sunday, March 12, where his movie 'Top Gun: Maverick' was nominated for six awards. According to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail on Monday, Cruise's absence was due to his desire to avoid an uncomfortable encounter with his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman.
"Tom was not there because she was there, and he did not want a run-in," the source said as per Daily Mail. Cruise and Kidman divorced more than 20 years ago, and they have not been seen at the same event for years. However, insiders close to Cruise told that his absence was due to scheduling conflicts rather than personal issues with Kidman. Despite the absence of the movie's lead actor, 'Top Gun: Maverick' was still nominated, including for the coveted Best Picture Award.

Are Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise avoiding each other?
Cruise, 60, and his ex-wife Kidman, 55, have not been spotted together at any Oscars events this year. In fact, they haven't been seen at the same event in years. Kidman attended the Oscars with her husband, country singer Keith Urban, 55, and the couple was seen sharing public displays of affection during the show. However, Kidman was notably absent from the Oscars luncheon last month, which was attended by Cruise, who is a devout Scientologist. At the luncheon, Cruise was spotted embracing Steven Spielberg, who praised the action star by saying that his character Maverick had 'saved Hollywood's a**' by bringing audiences back to theaters.
Inside Kidman and Cruise's Relationship
Kidman and Cruise first met in 1990 while filming the movie 'Days of Thunder', which focused on motor racing. Kidman, who was just 23 years old at the time and relatively unknown in Hollywood, was cast alongside Cruise, sparking a real-life romance between the two stars. However, after 12 years of marriage, Cruise abruptly left Kidman in 2001, leaving her in a state of 'utter shock.' That same year, Cruise filed for divorce citing 'irreconcilable differences,' but reports suggest that the real reason for his departure was Kidman's unwillingness to join the Church of Scientology.
In a 2012 interview with DuJour Magazine, Kidman opened up about the painful split, stating, "I thought our life together was perfect. It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system," as per Daily Mail. Kidman went on to explain how she and Cruise had become 'very dependent on one another' and that she was 'totally smitten' with him.
However, the couple's relationship came to an end, and Kidman has not had any interaction with Cruise for over a decade. Kidman has also not spoken to the two children she adopted with Cruise, Isabella, and Connor, in years. While Cruise has never publicly spoken about their failed marriage, he went on to marry actress Katie Holmes in 2006. However, their marriage ended in 2012.
