The Top 10 of ‘The Voice’ Season 21 performed their heart out on Monday, November 29, with an intention to fill the Top 8 seats for next week’s showcase in the semifinals. The trio called Girl Named Tom from Team Kelly wrapped up this week’s first episode with their rendition of Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’.

The latest episode was titled ‘Challenge Week’ wherein the contestants had to perform a song outside their genre. The Girl Named Tom, comprising Bekah Liechty and her older brothers, Caleb and Joshua, are usually comfortable with folk renditions but pulling off a pop number did not really trouble them at all. Kelly Clarkson helped them out by giving a few pointers before they landed on stage in front of the rest of the judges namely John Legend, Ariana Grande, and Blake Shelton. While the coaches loved the band's set, a majority of social media users felt the trio’s set was a mess.

Girl Named Tom fights for Top 8

The members of the Girl Named Tom looked stunning in all-black outfits as they performed in order to earn a coveted seat in the semifinals. The Indiana-based band got a lot of praises for their tight harmonies while each one of them also went for a few solo lines. While talking to the trio, Blake Shelton said that he loved how the three of them had great voices individually. John too pitched in and shared that he was imagining how fun their concerts would be.

Kelly, their mentor, was too ecstatic over their performance and seemed convinced that they will make it to the semifinals. The band later took to Twitter and shared an image from their latest performance, saying, “We felt powerful tonight.” For the uninitiated, the next episode will be aired on Tuesday, November 30, that will see three singers in the bottom. Only one lucky contestant will get the instant save sending the other two back home.

‘Are these judges drunk?’, asks Twitter

The fans of ‘The Voice’ shared their honest opinion on Girl Named Tom’s ‘Challenge Week’ performance where many slammed the band for their worst set so far.  “I love them, but this might be their last week”, said one user as another chimed in, “Omg! WTF! What is going on? This is their worst performance. This is so horrible. The girl is off key. Please remove this comfort zone bs lol.”

One user added, “Wow that was not good.” The next one tweeted, “THIS is so-called a challenge, the most different from their past performance. There might be some volume issues, but they did great, goosebumps.” Another trolled the trio saying, “To me this performance was all over the place, literally”, as another mentioned, “What in gods name is this mess.” One user concluded, “Are these judges drunk? Girl Named Tom sounded like a high school band if the band didn't know how to sing.”
