'The Vince Staples Show' Episode 1 Takeaway: Vince Staples spends a day in prison
LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA: American rapper Vince Staples features in his autobiographical scripted sitcom who navigates the challenges and surprises of everyday life.
The 30-year-old stars as himself in the limited series of satirical tales where he just wants to make it through the day without chaotic incidents.
The latest Netflix release is an expansion of his digital series released online in 2019 and consists of five episodes. 'The Vince Staples Show' uses dark, offbeat humor with Staples' compelling presence in a fictionalized version of himself.
Vince Staples gets picked up by a cop
In the first episode Staples finds himself in jail after being pulled over for an illegal U-turn. What starts as a brief stint takes an unexpected turn when he gets booked for assault, prolonging his stay in the cell.
Bri (Nate Jones) and his mother refuse to bail him out while he is too concerned to call his busy girlfriend. Staples finds himself in danger as a fellow prisoner threatens to attack him.
Vince Staples comes home to his nurse girlfriend
As the day ends, cops release him as they admit it as a case of 'mistaken identity', a subtle remark on racism where cops confuse him with another Black man who’s booked for assault.
Staples grabs his items and walks out of the police station. However, it's a long walk home as his car is towed from the 'No Parking' zone.
Vince comes home to his nurse girlfriend and doesn't find it necessary to share the events of his day.
All the episodes of 'The Vince Staples Show' are currently streaming on Netflix.
