‘The Undoing’ Episode 6 Spoilers: What are Sylvia and Franklin hiding? 3 reasons why they killed Elena Alves
Spoilers for ‘The Undoing’
Leave it to David E Kelley on keeping viewers at the edge of their seats and he will astound you. HBO's ‘The Undoing’ is just the perfect example of how his words can change the game. Based on the 2014 novel ‘You Should Have Known’ by Jean Hanff Korelitz, the miniseries takes the same story and turns it into a thrilling and chilling whodunnit crime show that is making fans go bonkers. The one question on everyone's minds is: Who killed Elena Alves?
After five episodes — all of which pointed to different characters and had the suspicion on their necks — the finale is titled ‘The Bloody Truth’ and its summary reads: “In the series finale, Haley Fitzgerald (Noma Dumezweni) walks an ethical tightrope in her defense strategy, and as the courtroom theater mounts, Grace Fraser (Nicole Kidman) takes measures to protect herself and her family.”
Several theories pointed to Grace, Jonathan Fraser (Hugh Grant) and even their son, Henry Fraser (Noah Jupe) but now many fans feel Grace's close friend Sylvia Steinetz (Lily Rabe) could probably have a bigger role and she might have secrets and a connection to Grace's father Franklin Reinhardt (Donald Sutherland). Did the two co-conspire the crime and let it play as it did? The one thing common between the two is how their invested interest in the case.
“With one episode left, my money is still on Sylvia the friend, at least as a co-conspirator. Her second "wave" to the prosecutor looked more like a baseball signal. Suspicious!” one fan posted and another said, “How is no one suspecting Sylvia right now? Incredibly friendly with Franklin and looks the type to steal a husband. My bet’s on her.”

Here are three reasons why they could have been involved:
Is Sylvia Grace's alternate personality?
One Reddit fan speculated, “Since the series deviates from the book, anything is within the realm of possibility. It could be possible that Sylvia is Grace's alternate personality. There are several times (in episodes 1 and 2 so far) that Sylvia states she is usually the first to know anything and is the person that relays info to Grace on a 'need-to-know basis. In the diner scene, Sylvie explains about knowing Jonathan's hospital legal issues.”
Another said, “Yes, the idea that Sylvia and Grace are two personalities inside the same body would fit well, which is also a possible the twist from the book where instead of Jonathan having killed his brother as a child, Grace killed her blond-haired sister, and then internalized her personality. In fact, Sylvia's life appears to revolve around Grace, and the editing of the series is consistent with that of 'Fight Club'.”
Is Sylvia Franklin's daughter?
One Twitter fan wondered if Sylvia was actually Franklin's daughter. Remember how Franklin confessed to Grace he cheated on her mother multiple times? “My prediction on #TheUndoing: Grace, Sylvia, Jonathan, Henry, and Franklin all took turns hitting Elena in the head with the hammer, like some kind of festivity. They killed her together. It’s to show how white, rich people get away with anything and everything, including murder.”
The Reddit fan also added, at the auction, “Sylvia greets Donald Sutherland's character, Franklin, with a hug and a kiss. At first, I assumed she's just an old family friend. Then I wondered if it was possible she's Grace's sister. In the opening credits towards the end (after the dripping blood), young Grace looks into the snow globe. Immediately after is a quick shot of a blonde-haired girl also looking into a snow globe. Sister? Or the start of Grace's split personalities? A fascinating show so far!”
The @PodClubhouse theory that Franklin is possibly Sylvia’s dad & Jonathan is the father of Sylvia’s daughter 🤯🤯 and maybe Sylvia got jealous of Elena and killed her 😱 #TheUndoing

Did Sylvia have an affair and Franklin knew about it?
One Reddit fan said, “I’m almost 100% positive it’s Sylvia, the whole thing about him having had other affairs in the past, and then Hugh Grant saying in the interview that jealously could have been a factor and suggesting he knew who it was. I don’t think that was an indictment of the husband. It could also be Henry or nearly anyone else and I wouldn’t be surprised.”
Moreover, Sylvia and Franklin's friendship seems deeper than just the bond with a friend's father. Could Sylvia have told him about the affair and that's why he helped Jonathan to brush it under the rug with the money?
