Where are Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour now? A look at the singer and model's short-lived engagement
Remember when Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose was engaged to Stephanie Seymour? If you don't, let's have a look at their tumultuous romantic cycle that even included lawsuits.
Who is Stephanie Seymour?
Stephanie Seymour, 52, is an American actress and model. During the 1980s and 1990s, she was regarded as one of the most popular supermodels. She has graced the covers for prominent fashion magazines, including Vogue and a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Additionally, she is a Victoria's Secret Angel.
As an actress, she has featured on an episode of 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' and the 2000 film 'Pollock' (about the life and career of Jackson Pollock), as well as performing in live-action footage for a video game titled 'Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller'.
Before her involvement with Axl, Seymour was in two famous relationships. When she was 16 years old, she began dating 42-year-old John Casablancas, the head of Elite Model Management, who was married to model Jeanette Christiansen at the time. The couple lived together before Seymour broke off the relationship, according to reports.
For one year, she was married to guitarist Tommy Andrews. Their marriage didn't work out but the former couple have a son name Dylan Thomas Andrews.
How did Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour meet?
By the early '90s, Seymour was a major celebrity, and her career had tapped into the likes of music when she appeared in two famous Guns N' Roses music videos, 'Don't Cry' and 'November Rain'. The latter music video stars Seymour as a rebel bride of Axl.
Axl and Stephanie met on the set of those videos the same year of their release in 1991 and started dating. According to an article by Bazaar in 2014, Seymour recalled her time in the videos, saying that she styled herself for her appearance and would like to get the dress back.
Their short-lived relationship
According to reports, Axl and Stephanie's relationship reached engagement during its course of two years, although Stephanie had denied it. The pair have made headlines for many years, largely in light of their discord which allegedly included cheating, physical abuse, theft and more.
"Getting involved with Axl Rose? Clearly a mistake," she told Bazaar. "It taught me a lot, though. He was a violent person, and I realized I never wanted to be around that again. The thrill of the whole rock 'n' roll thing wore off. I saw the worst of that world and it soured me."
While Stephanie expressed that Axl was violent, the Guns N' Roses frontman filed a lawsuit against the model, suing her for assault, battery, and the recovery of more than $100,000 worth of jewelry, which he claimed she stole. According to People magazine, the jewelry included a diamond, gold and turquoise necklace and a 4.5-carat diamond engagement ring. At the time, Axl's sister, Amy Bailey, also noted that he wanted to jewelry returned and “Rather than keep them as a sad and sorry reminder, he wants to give them to a child-abuse charity.”
Regarding physical abuse, one of the known stories is when Bailey organized a Christmas party for her brother and many friends and relatives at his Malibu home. Bailey noted that the couple had been bickering and Axl asked the guests to leave around midnight. Stephanie then called him a name, resulting in a 45-minute physical altercation. Stephanie allegedly swung a chair at Axl which grazed him, but then punched him in the groin. Although Axl is often known as having an explosive temper, his sister claimed, “I never saw Axl strike, punch or slap her,” adding, “[Stephanie] wants to push things to the edge.”
While Stephanie stated she "was never engaged to Mr Rose," she also denied allegations of the assault. In another article by People, Stephanie allegedly countersued the rock star, claiming physical abuse.
The fling that started it all
While both their claims brought up physical abuse which has been seen as the major reason for their split, one topic that crops its head up from time to time and a major contributor is a fling. As short as its time was, what is said to have ultimately caused all the trouble was Stephanie's affair with actor Charlie Sheen. She was romantically involved with Sheen in 1992, halfway through her relationship with Axl. How far it went is unclear.
