'The Stand' Episode 2 Spoilers: Dark Man will meet a man in prison, but there might not be insight into visions
Spoilers for 'The Stand' Episode 2 'Pocket Savior'
CBS All Access’ Stephen King adaptation, ‘The Stand’, set the stage for the horror author’s apocalyptic vision in the first episode. The show depicts a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. Episode 1 saw a weaponized strain of influenza (dubbed “Captain Trips”) kill almost the entire world population, leaving a handful of survivors — it has a supposed fatality rate of 99 percent.
Of them, Stu Redman (James Marsden) from Arnette, Texas, Frannie Goldsmith (Odessa Young) from Ogunquit, Maine, and Harold Lauder (Owen Teague) from Boulder, Colorado, all have the same vision. It is of Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg) telling them to come see her in Nebraska. Mother Abagail claims to be a prophet of God and leads the “good” survivors of the “Captain Trips” plague. Having lived a long life of 108 years, she resides in a farmhouse near Hemingford Home, Nebraska. The spiritual leader of the Boulder Free Zone, she was born to freed slaves from South Carolina and outlived three husbands and her seven children.
So, what can we expect from Episode 2 of ‘The Stand’? Titled ‘Pocket Savior’, the official description of the episode, as per ComicBook.com, says: “Musician Larry Underwood is on the cusp of his big break when ‘Captain Trips’ strikes New York. Alone and wandering an empty city, he meets an alluring new acquaintance also desperate to escape. Meanwhile, an incarcerated Lloyd Henreid comes face-to-face with Randall Flagg, The Dark Man himself, who makes him an enticing offer.”
Underwood is played by Jovan Adepo, and Henreid is played by Nat Wolff. The Dark Man, of course, is played by Alexander Skarsgård. Flagg is a recurring character in Stephen King's stories — he has appeared in at least nine of his novels. He has often been described in the books as "an accomplished sorcerer and a devoted servant of the Outer Dark," and he has supernatural abilities involving necromancy, prophecy, and influence over animals and human behavior. Flagg was a primary antagonist in King's epic series, ‘The Dark Tower’.
The episode will likely not shed further light on the weird visions seen by all three aforementioned protagonists. After all, it would seem that the episode will focus more on Flagg, Underwood and Henreid. It is just the beginning of the series and it makes sense that the initial episodes will take time to set each character up well. Hopefully, we will be able to get some answers about the visions and Flagg soon enough. Even if it is not the upcoming episode.
‘The Stand’ premiered on December 17, 2020, with the first episode titled ‘The End’ and subsequent episodes in the nine-episode limited-event series will follow every Thursday on CBS All Access. The episodes drop on the streaming site on the day of their scheduled release. The drop time is at midnight PT / 1 am MT / 2 am CT / 3 am ET. However, there's no set time to tune in.
