'The Outsider' is an upcoming crime-thriller commissioned by HBO in December 2018. The main cast members of the show were announced in January 2019 for the 10-episode miniseries based on Stephen King's novel of the same name.

Plot
The 10-episode miniseries is based on author Stephen King's book also titled 'The Outsider.' Terry Maitland, a popular teacher and little league coach gets arrested in front of a crowd at one of his students' games. The charges are rape, mutilation, and murder of an 11-year-old boy. Maitland continues to plead innocence and also hires his friend and lawyer Howie Gold to represent him. In the meanwhile, the detective who arrested him - Ralph Anderson - has eyewitnesses and clear physical evidence such as DNA and fingerprints to prove that Maitland is guilty of all charges. However, upon further investigation, it comes to light that Maitland has an alibi with multiple witnesses recounting that he was out of town at the time when the crime was committed. So who is the real killer? That is the plotline of the show.

Jason Bateman as Terry Maitland
Actor Jason Bateman, popular for his role in 'Ozark' which he also directed and executive produced, will play the role of Terry Maitland who gets accused of murder in the show.
Ben Mendelsohn as Detective Ralph Anderson
Actor Ben Mendelsohn, known for his role in the TV series 'Animal Kingdom', will play the role of Detective Ralph Anderson who first places Maitland under arrest but also finds contradictory pieces of evidence that indicate that Maitland could be innocent.
Bill Camp as Howie Gold
Actor Bill Camp is well-known for playing multiple supporting characters in films such as '12 Years a Slave', and 'Lincoln', among others. In 'The Outsider', he will play the role of Howie Gold, who is Maitland's friend and lawyer.
Cynthia Erivo as Holly Gibney
British actor Cynthia Erivo who received a Tony award for her role in Broadway revival of 'The Color is Purple' will play Holly Gibney, a private investigator. This character that had first appeared in Stephen King's 'Mr. Mercedes.'

Richard Price, a well-known American novelist and screenwriter, was hired to adapt Stephen King's books. Price is known for his novels 'The Wanderers' (1974), 'Clockers' (1992), and 'Lush Life' (2008).
Trailer
The first trailer of the show was released on October 17 in which we see Jason Bateman as Terry Maitland getting arrested for killing one Frankie Peterson. We see a surprised Maitland being cuffed in front of a field of people at a baseball game which includes his wife. Initially, the evidence corroborates the charges against Maitland, but detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) can be heard saying that the pieces of evidence do not match. We also see many believe the charges against Maitland even as his wife fights the claims. The show is a crime thriller that has all the workings of being great suspense in the making.
