Rob Wade, President of alternative entertainment told Variety that 'TMS' will return in 2021, saying, "I’m so happy to announce a new season of 'The Masked Singer.' This show brings joy to so many families across the country, especially during these trying times, and we can’t wait to get even more celebrities suited up in crazy costumes for an hour of pure fun every week.” Here's all you need to know about it.
Release date
Season 5 of 'The Masked Singer' will debut in March 2021. No release date has been announced by FOX yet. We will update this article as and when there's word out about it. However, if you enjoy watching masked celebrities perform on stage, guessing their identity is your favorite pastime, and you double up as an internet sleuth, 'The Masked Dancer' Season 1 is ready to premiere in the same slot of 'TMS' starting Wednesday, December 27. Here's all you need to know about it.
Plot
'The Masked Singer' is a reality TV singing competition series that was adapted from the South Korean format 'King of Mask Singer'. Each season sees participation from 12 celebrities, dressed eloquently from head to toe in extravagant masks and costumes.
The celebrities face-off with each other, singing their hearts out but before they do, a clue package with subtle to not so subtle hints about the particular celebrity is played on screen. This is done with the aim to help the judging panel and the audiences sitting at home to guess their identities. Each member in the live audience and on the judging panel is required to record their votes after each "masked celebrity" performs and the lowest voted celebrity goes home but not before revealing their identities. The celebrity-reveals are one of the most exciting elements of this show and certainly play a huge part in adding to the popularity of the show.
Cast
Season 4 of 'The Masked Singer' had some big names in the lineup. Paul Anka, Chloe Kim, Tori Kelly, Busta Rhymes, Taylor Dayne, Mickey Rourke and his goddamn rogue behavior, it'd be safe to say this was one of the most star-studded seasons ever. As for Season 5, the cast reveal will happen when the season kicks off and eliminations take place. However, here's a list of celebrities that 'TMS' fans would like to see in the next season.
Costumes
Season 4 really upped the ante this time with the masks. For the very first time, there was a puppet mask, they also incorporated animatronics with Serpent's robotic arms and legs, a concept that they introduced in the show for the very first time. Season 5 has to be bigger and better, and while there are no official updates/reveals about the costumes, for now, we urge you to bookmark this article and come back later for fresher updates.
Judges
Nicole "Detective Scherzy" Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, and everyone's favorite Dr. Ken "Wrong answers only" Jeong will be judging Season 5 like they've been doing since the inception of the show. Nick Cannon will be back as the host, there's no one else that can do justice to the format as he does.
Creators
Based on the South Korean format created by Mun Hwa Broadcasting Corp, 'The Masked Singer' is produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment. Craig Plestis, James Breen, Rosie Seitchik, and Nick Cannon serve as executive producers. Breen also doubles up as the showrunner.
