'The Mandalorian' continues to make fun of Stormtroopers aim in hilarious opening scene for season finale

The Taika Waititi-directed episode pauses the action for an extended comedic scene involving two bored Stormtroopers

The season finale of 'The Mandalorian' was filled with action, suspense, heartbreak, and thrills, but a Taika Waititi-directed episode would not be complete without a certain amount of humor, and the episode starts off with just that.

In what is likely the most hilarious Stormtrooper scene in 'Star Wars' canon history, the two Stormtroopers — played by Jason Sudeikis and Adam Pally — who picked up Baby Yoda are made to wait on the outskirts of Navarro, awaiting further orders.

Given that fans have been waiting in suspense for over a week to find out what happens to Baby Yoda, and the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) after Episode 7's cliffhanger, the bizarre focus on these two unimportant characters is made even more hilarious.

It might also be the most we've seen Stormtroopers talk on the job. Normally silent pawns of the Empire, an imposing threat for their sheer masses, apart from Finn (John Boyega) in the 'Star Wars' sequels, we don’t really get a lot of opportunities to see what the Stormtroopers are like in their downtime.

And it turns out that they're just as finicky as the rest of us when made to wait for extensive periods of time.

One of the Stormtroopers wants a peek at Baby Yoda, while the other, who is holding on to the child, refuses to take the child out of the bag as a precaution.

He constantly hits the bag containing Baby Yoda, too, which doubtless garnered many audible gasps from viewers around the world watching their precious Baby Yoda be so unceremoniously whacked.

To pass the time, the Stormtroopers do a little target practice — much needed, as they famously cannot hit a target to save their lives.

This isn’t the first time 'The Mandalorian' has poked fun at Stormtrooper's aim (or lack of it), though these two at least pretend to blame their guns for them missing their target entirely.

Maybe the Stormtroopers aren't to blame after all and it was the Empire skimping on their blaster budget all along.

The scene is interrupted by Taika Waititi himself — or, at least, the character he plays, as IG-11 comes to rescue Baby Yoda. IG-11, generally a hunter unit, has been reprogrammed and taken on a new purpose as a nurse, meaning it is going to protect the child no matter whose life it must take in order to do so.

An extended comedic scene propping up in the season finale, for a show that is generally been light on comedy through its run, certainly came as a surprise.

It's not an unwelcome one, however, and with the future of the 'Star Wars' franchise now in unclear waters, perhaps a Stormtrooper sitcom could be in the cards?
