LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ makers plan on unveiling the series by September 1, 2022 on Amazon Prime Video. While avid fans will get a rich insight into the vibrant and diverse world of Middle-Earth during the Second Age, not many know the real reason behind Sauron giving the rings to Dwarves and why it turned them greedy for gold.

The series mainly focuses on Sauron’s desperate attempts to rise in power by capturing the three Elven ‘Rings of Power’. It also narrates about the war fought between the Elves and Sauron’s vile army. According to the LOTR Fandom.com, by SA 1500, Sauron who had calculative plans to take over entire Middle-Earth feigned being the Lord of Gifts called Annatar. His plan was to create 19 rings of power and distribute it among Men, Dwarves and Elves. He thought that the rings would make all of them bend and submit to his will since he wanted to control the Middle-Earth without waging a war. But, this did not happen in case of Dwarves.

Sauron’s entry in Eregion

By SA 1500, Sauron became friends with the Elf smiths of Eregion which also included Celebrimbor (Edward Charles). He counselled them in arts and magic. Not all the Elves trusted him and this was particularly true in case of Galadriel, Elrond, and Gil-galad, the High King of the Noldor.

Sauron had given the Dwarves seven lesser rings of power. The Dwarven lords who received these rings resisted Sauron’s vile intentions since they all never submitted their kingdom to him. They never became Sauron’s slaves like the nine of the Men had as Nazgul (Sauron’s deadliest and cruellest servants). The Rings, however, created in the Dwarves a never-ending and insatiable lust for gold, which ultimately caused a great deal of grief for them.

Elves sense Sauron’s treacherous intentions

As soon as Sauron put on the One Ring with which he wanted to take over Middle-Earth, the Elves sensed his malicious intent. It made the Elves remove their rings and then they all managed to hide them away from Sauron. Feeling enraged, Sauron openly challenged all of them to a war. He demanded that all Rings of Power be given to him, but the Elves managed to hide the three Elven Rings from him. These three Elven Rings of Power had been forged by Celebrimbor. But the other sixteen Rings of Power were captured by Sauron or were destroyed and lost.
