HBO 'The Gilded Age': 5 things you didn't know about Louisa Jacobson
If you have been a fan of ‘Downton Abbey’, then there’s a new show that you’ll be obsessing over in the coming weeks. Julian Fellowes, the creator of ‘Downton Abbey’, is set to come out with a new show on HBO that will keep you glued to your screens. Titled ‘The Gilded Age’, the show is set in 1882 and chronicles the journey of a young woman named Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) who relocates to New York and is forced to live with her aunts.
The period saw some massive economic changes and after the death of her father, Marian moves in with their aunts, Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon). Maria is always told to follow the established rules of society, however, she didn’t want that and wanted to forge a path of her own. The premise of the show is interesting and we’ll surely get to see some really amazing moments from the show.

Louisa Jacobson as Marian Brook
Jacobson’s mother, Meryl Streep, is one of the greatest actors of all time and has won numerous awards. So, Louisa has a good idea of how it feels to be a member of the entertainment industry. Born on June 12, 1991, Jacobson attended British American Drama Academy in Oxford and is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama with a Master of Fine Arts in acting.
She made her acting debut in Yale Repertory Theatre’s production of ‘Native Son’. In 2019, she played the role of Juliet in The Old Globe’s production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
Cynthia Nixon as Ada Brook
Probably, one of the most influential names working in the entertainment industry, Cynthia Nixon has given several extraordinary performances throughout her career. Nixon is known for her role as Miranda Hobbes from the ‘Sex and the City’ TV show. Her feature film debut came in 1980 with ‘Little Darlings’ and her first role on TV came in 1982 with ‘My Body, My Child’.
The actress was nominated for four Golden Globes and three Primetime Emmys for his role on ‘Sex and the City’. She won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2004. She went on to win her second Emmy for her guest role in ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’.
Apart from that, she has been stellar on stage as well, winning two Tony Awards in the Best Actress category for ‘Rabbit Hole’ and ‘The Little Foxes’.
Christine Baranski as Agnes van Rhijn
Baranski has been one of the best actors of this generation and has given numerous award-worthy performances. Baranski is known for her role as Maryann Thorpe in the acclaimed comedy series ‘Cybill’. The actor won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for ‘Cybil’. She has received further critical acclaim for her performance as Diane Lockhart in the legal drama series The Good Wife (2009–2016) and its spin-off series The Good Fight (2017–present).
Over the years, she worked on several high-end projects such as ‘Cruel Intention’, ‘Mamma Mia!’, ‘Into the Woods’, ‘Miss Sloane’, ‘Law & Order’, ‘Frasier’, ‘Happy Family’, ‘The Big Bang Theory’, and ‘The Simpsons’.
Carrie Coon as Bertha Russell
Born on January 24, 1981, Carrie Coon began her acting career by doing plays for regional theater. She made her professional stage debut in ‘Our Town’ and garnered a lot of praise. Coon won the Theatre World Award for ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ and was also nominated for a Tony Award as well. Morgan Spector as George Russell
Spector has been a part of the industry since 2004 and has worked on several high-end projects. His acting debut came in 2010 when he made his Broadway debut in ‘A View for the Bridge’. In 2014, he co-starred with Rebecca Hall in the play titled ‘Machinal’. The pair have worked with each other in a couple of feature films as well. In 2015, the couple tied the knot and welcomed their first child in 2018.
As far as his acting credits are concerned, it includes the likes of ‘Christine’, ‘Chuck’, ‘Split’, ‘Permission’, ‘Person of Interest’, ‘Allegiance’, ‘The Mist’, ‘Homeland’ and ‘The Plot Against America’.
Taissa Farmiga as Gladys Russell
Although Farmiga wanted to be an accountant, she was pursued by her older sister Vera Farmiga, to join the field of acting. Vera cast her sister in her directorial debut ‘Higher Ground’. In 2011, she also made her TV debut with ‘American Horror Story: Murder House’ and gained worldwide prominence. Since then, she has worked in three more ‘American Horror Story’ installments, including ‘Coven’, ‘Roanoke’ and ‘Apocalypse’.
Meanwhile, in films, she gained worldwide prominence with her role in the movie ‘The Nun’, which was the prequel of James Wan’s ‘The Conjuring 2’. The movie turned out to be a global box office success and earned $365 million worldwide. Taissa was praised for her acting.
'The Gilded Age' will be premiering exclusively on HBO on Monday, January 24.
