Rapper, radio host and DJ Prince Markie Dee, whose real name is Mark Anthony Morales, died on Thursday, February 18. He was 52. The songwriter-producer reportedly died of congestive heart failure, as reported by All Hip Hop. Markie Dee, also called Morales by his friends and family, was best known as a member of the hip-hop group The Fat Boys.

The group comprised Darren Robinson (The Human Beat Box), Damon Wimbley (Kool Rock Ski) and Prince Markie Dee. Unfortunately, he would have celebrated his 53rd birthday on February 19. After working with his group for a few years, he later pursued a solo career under Columbia Records where he dropped two albums namely ‘Free' and ‘Love Daddy’. Rock The Bells, where Markie Dee used to work as a radio host and DJ, also tweeted their condolences: “The Rock The Bells family is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Mark “Prince Markie Dee” Morales earlier today. That voice and his presence can never be replaced. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones.”

Prince Markie Dee fueled his rap aspirations after becoming a member of the hip-hop trio The Fat Boys from Brooklyn, New York City, that emerged in the early 1980s. The group was briefly known as the Disco 3. Just like all the other artistes, the late emcee also pocketed the money with the help of record sales, touring, copyrights and loyalties. Luckily, he had other skills as well which allowed him to make a fortune. Prince was also a known radio personality for his polished DJ skills.

Markie Dee earned an impressive amount of money when his song ‘Typical Reasons (Swing my Way)’ topped the charts. Markie Dee used his sharp writing skills for other top artiste as well. He later joined Corey Rooney to form the production company called Soul Convention where he penned songs and helped in the recording process for global artistes such as Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Marc Anthony, Mary J Blige and Craig Mack. He later worked as a radio host/DJ at 103.5 The Beat WMIB radio in Miami, Florida, and WEDR 99.1 FM.
