BUNBURY, AUSTRALIA: An Australian business is being lauded for its genius Easter egg recycle hack that can apparently contribute to saving the planet. As the world prepares for Easter this weekend, the best part of the festivities includes eating guilt-free loads of Easter eggs

The City of Bunbury in Western Australia shared the message on Facebook. "Easter is just around the corner! Did you know the foil wrapping from the Easter eggs you eat this Easter can be recycled?" the re-surfaced post read. The viral post has shocked more than 11,000 Aussies.

Orthodox Easter celebrations come as Ukraine marks two months since the start of Russia's February 24 invasion, a war that has killed untold thousands of civilians and soldiers. As Russia concentrates its attack on the country's east and south, Ukrainians elsewhere claim their dead and clean up the damage, striving for a semblance of normalcy in wartime.

'One of the most recyclable products'

The post added, "Chocolate Easter eggs are typically wrapped in colored foil and come in cardboard or plastic holders - all of which can be recycled across Australia. Aluminum foil is one of the most recyclable products, as it saves the most energy if we do recycle it. In Australia, it is usually made back into more aluminum." The post also explained that leftover foil on the Easter egg could end up "being the aluminum in a can of soft drink or it could end up being in an aluminum baseball bat or toy. So once you've eaten your Easter eggs, and there's no real chocolate left on it, scrunch them up into a big ball and pop the foil into your yellow recycling bin."

Best way to recycle the wrapper

Thousands were shocked to learn the foils were recyclable and lauded the City of Bunbury for sharing the environment-friendly news. Many flocked to social media to spread awareness about how to collect the foil in a more efficient way, to avoid any wastage. "Well there you go, I never knew this," one person praised the helpful news. "I feel like the more Easter eggs we eat the more we save the planet!" another added, according to Daily Mail. Others quickly suggested eating "tons" of Easter chocolate in order to collect the pieces of foil together rather than in small balls. "Remember though, small pieces fall through the sorter in the recycling process. Wait until you have a lot of foil to recycle, roll it into a ball (must be at least as big as a tennis ball) and put it in your yellow-lidded bin," one person explained. Another added, "Because if you don't make the ball big enough it will end up in landfill during the sorting process so eat LOTS of chocolate eggs until you have at least a cricket ball sized ball!"
