The sixth episode begins with Elizabeth(Amanda Seyfried) working with acclaimed director Errol Morris to film a commercial for Theranos to boost its image. The wily woman is hell-bent on selling her company's trustworthy and revolutionary image to the public, but all that is soon to come to bite her in the back. With many original employees leaving, we see new recruits Tyler Shultz(Dylan Minnette) and Erika Cheung(Camryn Mi-Young) come on board, unknowing of the company's scams that go on internally.
Episode 6 revolves around the oncoming storm the company is about the face as Richard Fuisz(William H. Macy) and Phyllis Gardner(Laurie Metcalf) contact The Wall Street Journal reporter John Carreyrou(Ebon Moss-Bachrach) to expose Holmes and her company. Dylan Minette and Camryn Mi-Young Kim shared a great rapport as Tyler and Erika, and bring to life the young generation who are hungry to learn and have a moral sense of duty to do the right things. The episode beautifully highlights the strength of money and power that are key to running a scam, when they are left wide-eyed upon learning that the CEO they respect is a fraud. Amanda Seyfried continues to give a brilliant performance and captures the cringey and sly Elizabeth in her whole essence. Showcasing conflicted emotions, disappointment, and a building sense of impending doom the episode runs us through the obstacles that come with beginning to take down the wealthy and influential.
The episode ends on a hopeful note that shows Carreyrou being contacted by Tyler and Erika who have decided to speak up despite being intimidated, fired, and lied to by Holmes, and the woman who plays dumb when asked about the truth will be getting what's coming to her. Corporate threats only go so far, and while Elizabeth may be adorning the covers of Forbes and Fortune, the exciting and frustrating episode marks the beginning of the end for her and Theranos.
