LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The ending of Episode 2 saw Kate’s life turning upside down when she got to know that she is being groomed to be the next Vice-President of the United States. Kate (Keri Russell) is shocked, but she is more frustrated with what Hal did. However, she puts everything behind her and tries fixing the problem by telling the POTUS that Iran is not behind this attack. Also, he tries convincing the President that he shouldn’t be standing next to the UK PM after he gave a fiery speech in which he assured that he would rain “hellfire” on Tehran if they are behind the attack.

Things are getting intense and that’s why the POTUS, along with Kate, decide to meet the UK PM and Dennison, to negotiate the terms of the meetings. After meeting each other in Episode 3 of 'The Diplomat', they decide that the President (Michael McKean) and the PM can meet each other in private and have dinner with each other privately. The terms have been negotiated and both the dignitaries dine together alone. In the meantime, Hal and Billie tell Kate why the Vice President is resigning and why she is being considered for the next VP. Apparently, the current VP has misplaced a grant of a whopping $6.3 million. Well, the VP should be out for doing so.

But it seems the Iranian government heard what the UK PM said and has moved its infantry to the case in case there’s a threat of war.

US President takes an 'inappropriate' decision

During the meal, the US President promises the UK PM that they will send a carrier group of ships to the Gulf so that they could save the warship that’s probably sinking. But it turns out that the carrier is not sinking and the UK PM calls Dennison to talk with him privately. Both men walk into the garden and talk about what just happened. Dennison is really worried about the situation and believes that the UK PM has lured the POTUS to send ships into the Gulf. As soon as the ships will enter the Gulf, the Iranians would feel that a war is coming.

Kate believes that we just cannot indulge in this war and lets Billie know that it’s not the time to be the “infinitely ravenous American” who tears a “flimsy web of relationships.”

In the ending moments of the episode, Kate gets to know that he knew about the entire plan for a month. She feels she has been betrayed by her husband and wants to talk to him. So, they decide to take a walk in the garden to talk about how it all went down. Hal tells her everything, but their conversation soon shifts to their relationship. Their relationship has reached a new low and Kate doesn’t believe a word that comes from her husband’s mouth. Hal agreed to divorce her a month before this incident took place. Kate is furious at him and beats him up in the garden.
