'Thank God for you': Ellen DeGeneres posts sweet tribute to her 'favorite person' Portia de Rossi on 50th birthday
MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: It was less than a month ago that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi celebrated their 18th anniversary and now, the TV host has taken to Instagram to wish her wife a happy 50th birthday. The talk show host, 65, posted a beach photo of de Rossi to mark the occasion, with the caption, “Happy birthday, Portia. Thank God for you.” In the photo, de Rossi was rocking a pair of sunglasses and a white-black headband.
On their anniversary, DeGeneres posted an emotional post for her former actress-wife. She posted two photos, one was of the pair dressed in casual and low-key outfits as they posed for a selfie and the other was picture where de Rossi can be seen holding her wife tight as they both smile for the camera. “It’s our 18 year anniversary today. I fall in love with her more every day. I’m so grateful for her love,” the post was captioned.

How Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi met
The couple met at a party in 2001 and began dating in 2004. Following the legalization of same-sex marriages in California, they got married in 2008. “I ran into Ellen at a photo shoot about a year ago and she took my breath away. That had never happened to me in my life, where I saw somebody and [experienced] all of those things you hear about in songs and read about in poetry,” de Rossi said.
She continued, “My knees were weak. It was amazing. And it was very hard for me to get her out of my mind after that … we just were kind of supposed to be together … I just couldn’t ignore the feelings I had for Ellen,” per US Weekly.
A long-lasting relationship
DeGeneres, for her part did not shy away from speaking about her partner and how much she appreciated her. “Portia understands me completely. In our vows, she recited a quote - ‘It is good to be loved. It is profound to be understood’- and to me, that’s everything. What ‘I love you’ really means is ‘I understand you,’ and she loves me for everything that I am,” DeGeneres reportedly said.
