Texas couple's poop trap for porch pirates backfires as thieves get back with cow dung
AUSTIN, TEXAS: Several residents of the south Austin neighborhood claims that their CCTV cameras have captured the same individuals repeatedly swiping delivery packages and stealing them from their porches.
As a trick to trap these porch pirates, a Texas couple set a poop trap using their toddler’s waste on their porch. However, the masked thieves retaliated to it by spraying their home with cow dung manure.

The neighborhood of the Texas couple has been going through the tensions of missing packages from their porch over the last month. Gabriela and her husband put a box of dirty diapers on the front porch. She said to KXAN, “We need to stop this now, especially before the holidays get started." Further, she continued, “They’re hitting in the middle of the day, the middle of the night. Same car. Same people.”
Gabriela then explained, “The same [people] came back and took [the] package. And when they discovered it was a bunch of dirty diapers they came back and smeared those diapers on our front door.” She then claimed, “Thirty minutes later, they came back with a giant bag of cow manure. They spread that all over our front porch and on our cars in the driveway. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I called police, filed a report, and now there’s a detective on the case.”
Another victim, Britany Walker stated, “I tried to pull on their emotions or something,” Walker said. “I just ran out and said, ‘I have a baby', and they looked at me and just laughed. It was a really upsetting moment.”
Meanwhile, Austin Police Department informed that porch-pirate victims are “well within their rights” to confront suspects, however, it’s “safest to call 911 to report the incident if it’s in progress.” However, in 2019, Texas passed certain laws aiming to deter porch pirates and even making certain cases felonies.
To curb the issue of package stealing every holiday season, the police also launched “Operation Front Porch." This operation lets residents get their packages delivered to the police department, which will avoid boxes from remaining unattended outside their homes. “It was very successful, what safer place to have your package delivered to than the police department?," said Commander Tom Sloan. The program also consisted of a community camera program which will help the cops to catch the thieves quickly if any crimes take place. The program aims at a voluntary database that provides the department with a list of homes that have surveillance cameras, so investigators can reach out to homeowners and ask for video if a crime happened in the area.
