Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is sparking controversy once again after recent comments he made on gun violence. Tekashi, who was sentenced to prison for charges including racketeering, carrying a firearm, assault with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy murder charges, shared a video on August 2 via Instagram Live where he repeatedly bashed rappers who have been killed by gun violence. He is currently out of prison over coronavirus fears.

"A lot of people always wanna say 'Yo, why you always around a whole bunch of security?'" he began in the clip. "Why your favorite rapper dead right now with bullet holes in his face? What the f**k are you talking about? Why y'all favorite rappers getting shot in the face and all that? You heard? Favorite rappers getting shot in their face, getting shot in their s**t, like..." Tekashi continued, adding, "I'm getting security with me. Y'all ain't going RIP me. Y'all not gonna put me on a t-shirt. You heard? I'll let y'all be gangster."

Tekashi's comments drew the ire of Twitter who believe he is disrespecting fellow rappers who have been killed in gun-related attacks. "6ix9ine hopped on ig live and disrespected X, Pop Smoke and Nipsey. F**K 6IX9INE," says a Twitter user.

Another writes, "The fact 6ix9ine has a criminal record for a child sex offence and admitted to 7 years of domestic violence against his ex but still managed to score a #1 and maintain a fan base makes me question humanity."

One user said, "His way of explaining it is so trash. He’s right. You need security but the repeating it over and over with all that aggression is trashhhh."

XXXTentacion is the earliest rapper who was shot out of the three mentioned by fans. XXXTentacion, whose real name is Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, was an American rapper and singer-songwriter. XXXTentacion gained a cult following among his young fanbase during his short career through his depression and alienation thematic driven music. He was often credited by critics and fans for his musical versatility, with his music exploring emo, trap, lo-fi, indie rock, nu metal, hip hop and punk rock. In June 2018, XXXTentacion was fatally shot at the age of 20, in a robbery at a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida. After stealing from him a Louis Vuitton bag containing $50,000, the attackers fled the scene in an SUV. The four attackers are currently in prison.

Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot outside his store Marathon Clothing in South Los Angeles in March 2019. Eric Holder, a 29-year-old man who had confronted Hussle earlier in the day, was arrested and charged with murder in April 2019.

Pop Smoke is the latest rapper to be murdered in a shooting. On the morning of February 19, 2020, the rising Brooklyn rapper was shot dead at the home he was renting in the Hollywood Hills. Pop Smoke, whose real name is Bashar Barakah Jackson, was on the forefront of Brooklyn’s exploding drill movement, paving the way with hits like 'Welcome to the Party' and 'Dior'.
