CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE: ‘Teen Mom’ star Ryan Edwards, 35, who is not new to controversies, has again found himself in the middle of his wife of six years Mackenzie, 26, filed for a divorce on Monday, February 27. Earlier in the year 2023, Mackenzie Edwards (née Standifer) was also granted an Order of Protection from her estranged husband.

Amid the dispute over violating the order and Edwards' arrest, Mackenzie filed for divorce and was granted a restraining order as well as custody of their two children, Jagger, 4, and Stella, 3.

Who is Mackenzie Edwards?

The now estranged couple met at a Tennessee gym in Chattanooga. They rose to fame as they showed their relationship on MTV. After a whirlwind romance and getting engaged in December 2016, Mackenzie and Ryan got married after five months in May. Their wedding ceremony which grabbed eyeballs was aired on TV too. Later, the couple welcomed their son Jagger in 2018 and daughter Stella in 2020.

Why is she filing for a restraining order?

The couple had been going through quite a rough patch in their relationship before filing for divorce. The domestic problems came to the public when Edwards accused Mackenzie of cheating and took to Instagram to share X-rated images of his wife with the caption, “If you guys have never seen a spineless slut this is one.” The post has since been deleted, however. He further added, “They take your money sleep with anything that looks at them. But they must have a wife to [sic]. God what a joke. It’s sad really.”

Following the slut-shaming online, Mackenzie filed a case against Edwards to the police where she accused him of domestic violence. She detailed, “Arguing, Ryan punched holes in the walls and doors. [He] held me up by my neck to the wall. Threw me down in hallway and said if he could not have me no one could.” Describing the horrifying incident, she further added, he “Opened pocket knife, put to my back like he was going to kill me. This was in front of children. I tried to leave, he smashed my phone, took my car keys.”

After her complaint, she was given an Order of Protection against her allegedly rogue husband. However, Edwards reportedly broke the Protective Order as he was in touch with Mackenzie's father Bob Standifer, reports Us Weekly.

The filing of divorce happened soon after the Tennessee police issued two arrest warrants for Edwards who was condemned for the crimes of allegedly "stalking" his wife and breaking the Order of Protection.

'It’s probably what’s best for both of them'

Netizens welcomed Mackenzie's step by saying, "Honestly it’s probably what’s best for both of them, even if Ryan can’t see it right now. I don’t think she’d leave if they were still on the show." While another user said, "I'm glad that she broke free of that addict. I just hope that she doesn't soften with time and reconcile with him. Because Ryan's parents are such enablers, I don't hold out much hope for him being able to kick his drug habits." A concerned user however wrote, "Only ones I feel sorry for are the kids!"
