Who was Technoblade? Minecraft YouTuber dies at 23 after heartbreaking final message to fans

Minecraft streamer and YouTube content creator Alexander "Alex", better known by his online pseudonym Technoblade passed away at the age of 23 after one year of battle with cancer. Technoblade had been battling cancer since July 2021. In a YouTube video titled, “so long nerds”, his father shared a message from his son announcing the streamer’s death on June 30. “Hello everyone, Technoblade here,” the message began. “If you’re watching this. I am dead.”

“Thank you all for supporting my content over the years. If I had another hundred lives, I think I would choose to be Technoblade again every single time as those were the happiest years of my life.” According to his father, Technoblade wrote his final message to his fans approximately eight hours before he passed. “I don’t think he said everything he wanted to say but I think he got the main points,” his father said in an emotional statement. “He was the most amazing kid anyone could ever ask for. I miss Technoblade. “Thank you to all of you, for everything. You meant a lot to him.” Techno’s mother, revealed that the streamer, who said that his real name is Alex battled stage four cancer without any complaints. She added: “My son’s bravery on this path was a shining lesson to all of us who were privileged to walk it with him.”

Technoblade's family's statement was also shared by e-sports gamer, Jake Lucky on Twitter. "Technoblade has passed away after his battle with cancer, his father delivered a final message on his behalf today. May he rest in peace", Lucky wrote. “We, the family of Technoblade, wanted all of you to know just how much he adored and respected his fans and colleagues", the statement read. “From Technoblade’s earliest online days, he was always strategizing ways to delight and reward his audience - giving away online prizes, encouraging good sportsmanship, and most of all sharing his Minecraft adventures for entertainment and laughs", it continued. The statement mentioned despite Technoblade's success in reaching over 10 million subscribers, he worked to keep his identity private.



 

Who was Technoblade?

Born on June 1, 1999, Technoblade was an American gamer better known for his Minecraft content on YouTube. Technoblade resided in California and started YouTube during high school. Technoblade made the majority of his videos on the Minecraft server Hypixel. His 500th episode special, titled "Ultimate Hunger Games," was his most-viewed video before he gained more popularity. Techno never did an official "face reveal". However, his face has been visible in his subscribers' special video, in the "Cooking with Technoblade" videos.  Technoblade reached 10 million subscribers on his channel right on New Year's Eve in 2022.

On August 27, 2021, Technoblade uploaded a video titled "where I’ve been in", in which he revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer in early August after feeling pain and swelling in his right arm. On February 1, 2022, he announced the start of the Minecrafters vs. Cancer fundraising event, which was also a response to his cancer battle.

Multiple content creators shared tributes online including Ludwig, who has over 3 million subscribers. "I’ve been rewatching Technoblade’s for the past hour. He was so witty and so humble even in the toughest of times. I’ll always look up to him. Rest In Peace <3".



 

YouTuber Schlatt wrote, "I'll never forget the day I met Technoblade. I left work early to play in a Minecraft tournament with him. I barely knew how to play... and the dude still carried us to win the entire fucking event. Rest in peace, big guy. You'll always be a legend." "Effortlessly funny. Endlessly talented. Gone too soon. Rest easy, Technoblade", YouTuber Ted Nivison wrote.
