Taylor Swift reps slam claim she skipped Grammys as she wasn't guaranteed a win: 'You guys need to calm down'
Taylor Swift's representatives slammed claims made by Page Six that the singer-songwriter did not attend the Grammys as the awards didn't guarantee that she would win. The gossip site, which is operated by New York Post, claimed multiple sources confirmed this.
According to Page Six, a music insider said, "[Her team] called and wanted to be assured that she would win the Grammy. And while it wasn’t an explicit demand, they certainly were fishing to find out if Taylor was a winner. It was understood in the conversation that if she’s not winning, she’s not coming to the Grammys."
The publication also quoted another insider saying, "It’s widely known in the industry that [Swift’s team] called to find out if she was getting a Grammy, they wouldn’t tell her, so she didn’t go. It’s not uncommon [for an artist] to want to know. And everyone knows Taylor loves to win, win, win."
However, representatives for the artists slammed the claims in a statement saying, "I am on the record: These statements by anonymous, unidentified ‘sources’ are absolutely 100 percent false and laughable. She just didn’t go to the Grammys. You guys need to calm down."
Swift was nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Song of the Year. Lizzo won for Best Pop Solo Performance while the other two awards went to Billie Eilish at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
A report by US Weekly claimed that Swift did not attend the Grammys due to her obligations around the release of the documentary 'Miss Americana' at the 2020 Sundance Festival and to be with her mother, whose cancer had returned according to the singer's interview with Variety.
Another report by Variety claimed that Swift had opted to skip the Grammys to be in solidarity with former Recording Academy President Deborah Dugan, who was put on administrative leave due to misconduct allegation according to the Recording Academy. However, Dugan filed an explosive EEOC complaint alleging sexual harassment and voting irregularities.
