Did Taylor Swift really channel Princess Diana? Singer denies 'revenge' dress rumors
Taylor Swift raised eyebrows after appearing to channel Princess Diana through her iconic "revenge dress" Thursday evening, November 11.
The 'Blank Space' hitmaker, 31, drew comparisons to the late royal during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers as she flaunted an off-the-shoulder mini dress with a notch neckline and crystal embroidery. She was at the late show to promote the re-recording of her 2012 album Red and her likeness to Prince William's late mother was undeniable. While their dresses had striking similarities, the 11-time Grammy winner chose not to wear tights or a pearl choker like the Princess of Wales did back at the sensational 1994 Vanity Fair party.

The "revenge dress" was one of Diana's most discussed looks of all time, after she wore it shortly after her ex-Prince Charles admitted to cheating on her in an interview with Jonathan Dimbleby two years after they separated. This prompted fans of Swift to assume she was sending a message to ex Jake Gyllenhaal or Scooter Braun, but the pop star was quick to debunk the theories. She was asked by Access Hollywood the following day if the dress had hidden connotations. "Oh my god, this isn't — I just liked the dress," she responded. "I liked the black dress," she added to the reporter at the All Too Well premiere at AMC Lincoln Square on Friday, November 12.
Albeit Swift clarified she did not intend to shade Gyllenhall with her dress, she was candid about her heartbreak after their 2011 split in her new movie. The film last 13 minutes and features new lyrics from the extended version of All Too Well, suggesting that their nine-year age gap was surely a factor in their break up. "You said if we had been closer in age maybe it would have been fine / And that made me want to die," Swift sang, although she has never officially confirmed that the song is about Gyllenhaal, 40, whom she dated from October to December 2010.
Meanwhile, other lyrics suggested the breakup was particularly hard on the 'Wildest Dreams' hitmaker. "They say all's well that ends well but I'm in a new hell / Every time you double-cross my mind," the lyrics read. However, Gyllenhaal does not seem particularly opposed to age-gap relationships. The 'Donnie Darko' star has been linked to 25-year-old French model Jeanne Cadieu since late 2018, who is reportedly 15 years his junior.
Swift's re-recording of Red features six other unreleased songs. According to a review of the album on The Sun, one of those numbers titled 'I Bet You Think About Me' is also about Gyllenhaal. "You can't help who you fall for, and you and I fell like an early spring snow. But reality crept in, you said we're too different," the lyrics read. The unnamed love interest is also accused of having "laughed at my dreams" and "rolled your eyes at my jokes." Swift further taunted the subject of her song, singing, "Mr. Superior Thinking, do you have all the space that you need?" and adding, "I don't have to be your shrink to know that you'll never be happy and I bet you think about me.'
