Did Tamar Braxton really try to kill herself? Internet shocked they hadn't noticed she called herself a 'slave'

Many are shocked at how the star had referred to herself as a slave and in the light of events, like the death of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, many are asking people to not ignore the Black community

In recent days the #BlackLivesMatter movement has become the center of attention for many and for good reason as many hope for racial justice in all walks of life not just policing. As the movement called for equality, many on Twitter have advocated for Black rights bringing to surface America's dark history of slavery. Today, many on the Internet realized that Tamar Braxton, who was recently rushed to the hospital after what was reported to be a "possible suicide attempt", had her Twitter handle changed to 'TAMAR "SLAVE” BRAXTON' long before news of her suicide note had come out. The Blast reported that before the reality star attempted to hurt herself, she sent a "chilling suicide threat" to her family members and with the contents of the texts now being revealed, fans are asking people to "please pray for us Black people WE ARE SO DAMN TIRED."

The website further revealed that the text was a draft for a tweet, but Braxton had decided to send it to her family members. "I am a slave. I do not own my life. My stories. My pictures. My thoughts or beliefs. I’ve asked my massa to free me. I’m threatened and punished for it," read the message. "The only way I see out is death. I will choose that before I continue to live like this. Please help me. [praying hands emoji]." While some fans were shocked that such a private message was already leaked to the media, others focused on calling attention to the issue at hand.

"Look at the signs. She said she’s a slave. On Gods Green earth the only slaves were the Blacks that had their rights taken away. Tamar is rich and famous and has family to the left of her so I doubt any white man has her by the neck... it has to be someone of more power," wrote one user with another adding, "I’m really praying for Tamar Braxton! They ignore our depression as black women, and replace it with us being “crazy” but really we are sad, defeated, don’t wanna live, and feel like the best way to just be done with it is to end it. Keeping her in my prayers nah fr."

Many were shocked at how the star had referred to herself as a slave and in the light of recent events, just as the death of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, many are asking people to not ignore the Black community and their "valid feelings." The publication also reported that Braxton was in "stable" condition. "Domestic abuse and mental health. It’s not just Tamar and Megan. They only represent what so many Black women are dealing with. Sending all of you love and healing energy," wrote another user.

"Tamar’s suicide attempt shows that black people can be depressed too. Black people can want to hurt themselves too. Everyone has feelings. depression/suicide/any mental illness is not heavily talked abt in the black community, but it’s there, it happens," wrote one user speaking of the importance of noticing the signs, and recuperating from mental health struggles. another wrote, "Tamar Braxton is celebrity proof that being stripped of all positive and history worthy identity that we - Black people - should have is keeping us broken. We don't own our lives, our careers, our culture... We need therapy for so much brokenness."

There were many outpourings of love and prayers for Braxton as news broke that Nene Leakes and sister Toni Braxton have heard from the star during her hospitalization. "Praying for black women and their mental health. Tamar is super talented and it's relieving to read that she's in stable condition," said one fan. The social media channel still reeling from the message the star had written to her family members, felt a bit of guilt for not noticing her Twitter handle before the news that she was hospitalized had even broken.

"Now #Tamar has attempted suicide after referring to herself as a slave and speaking of her massa about being free or dying ?! What is happening? It's time for us to completely separate from this system and establish our OWN EVERYTHING! Our people are tired! #rizzaislam" wrote one user, with another adding, "The fact that her name was Tamar “Slave” Braxton before everything became public knowledge + none of us noticed (including me) or those who did, didn’t care enough to check on her + ask if she was okay bc making light of this kind of shit is so normalized, is absolutely sickening."
