'Supergirl' Season 5 Episode 11: Despite weak plot, Winn's return and Easter eggs make for an enjoyable watch

This review contains spoilers for 'Supergirl' Season 5 Episode 11: 'Back From the Future - Part One'

It may have borrowed the title from the 1985 hit and tweaked it a tad, but this episode of 'Supergirl' did provide enough Easter eggs in the form of Winn Schott's (Jeremy Jordan) return.

Jordan's return comes as a refresher. The show has had a rather serious tone throughout the 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' and while 'Back From the Future Part 1' may not have a stellar fight sequence, it revolves heavily around the relationship the characters share with Jordan's character.

As far as the Easter eggs go, Winn's wife Ayla aka Lightning Lass was referenced and a picture of her and their daughter was shown. Add to that the Legion spaceship and the new ring with some unknown dream powers, the episode was a heck of a treat for fans.

Then there was a Winn doppelganger in the episode, but the evil counterpart wasn't really much used and that may have put the episode on the backfoot.

It does try its best in introducing Winn to a larger part of the story, by adding in Lena Luthor's (Katie McGrath)  Q-waves story, with Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor offering to help her obtain them.

The crafty villain manages to steal a cube from the legion spaceship for Lena's Q-waves. What it does is also establish that Lex is either teaming up with Lena or using her again to wreak havoc.

And speaking of friendship, the William Dey (Staz Nair) storyline where he and Kara (Melissa Benoist) decide to pair up and take down Lex is interesting, but it's the brief romance that should be the strict no-no going forward.

There's not much of a chemistry between the duo despite being heavily teased in all of their shared screen space.

'Back From the Future - Part 1' may have had mixed reviews from fans, but what it can boast about are the Easter eggs it shelled out. It also set up a more, relaxed storyline for the characters and prepped them for Part 2 slated to release next week.

'Supergirl' airs on Sundays at 9 pm on The CW.
