'Supergirl' Season 5 Episode 7 review: 'Tremors' finally reveals Leviathan's origins but the Kara-Lena storyline still takes precedence

While the whole emotional sequence comes across as a rushed piece of work, it's understandable as the series is just two weeks away from the 'Crisis' crossover.

This review contains spoilers for 'Supergirl' season 5 episode 7: 'Tremors'

The much-awaited Leviathan's identity and origins and in many ways, the suspense that was built since season 4's finale was worth it. Adding to this is some emotional Kara-Lena moment that finally sees Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) know the truth about Lena (Katie McGrath).

In what comes as an interesting development, the Malefic-J'onn war finally ends as the brothers embrace each other. As strange as it may seem though, Leviathan's head honcho isn't the impressive Margot (Patti Allan), rather an earth-bender called Rama Khan (Mitch Pileggi). In Cara Buono's (The 'Stranger Things' star who played Mrs.Wheeler) Gamemnae, an ancient alien, he has a formidable ally who has been on earth since the Mesozoic era.

'Tremors' boasts of three major plot points— Kara v Rama Khan, Kara and Lena, Malefic and J'onn (David Harewood). While there was enough on the plotline to have a major Kara-Rama Khan scrimmage, it looks like the writers decided to make quick work out of the duel and focus more on the Kara and Lena relationship instead. Not that it doesn't pay dividends. Lena's turmoil is out there for the world to see and this time, Kara gets to witness it first-hand at the Fortress of Solitude when Lena gives her a glimpse of what it felt like when she was betrayed.

While the whole emotional sequence comes across as a rushed piece of work, it's understandable as the series is just two weeks away from the 'Crisis' crossover. The Malefic storyline has been part of the series since the new season opener and while it does look like the brothers get a happy ending, the sinister feels just refuse to go away. 'Tremors' attempts to jampack a lot in one episode and that may also lead to the feeling of it being left incomplete.

With Lena now one step closer to putting her plan of "fixing" mankind in motion, it remains to be seen how Kara deals with the threat. Given how she tackled Rama Khan, Leviathan seems to be the least of her problems. The Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Kelly (Azie Tesfai) moment does manage to bring in a smile at the end of the episode, but personally, it could have been used for a better fitting episode rather than make it seem a filler. Like we said, 'Tremors' could have done more, but it does come across as the much-needed Leviathan origin episode and that should do.

'Supergirl' airs Sundays 9 pm on The CW.
