When the coronavirus pandemic hit the world earlier this year, every industry was affected — especially the television industry as many shows had to end their seasons prematurely because of the lockdown measures. Many of those shows are returning, albeit, much later, after having resumed with precautionary measures as the pandemic is still raging on. Because the world looks different now, all the returning shows are reflecting the current state of the world. Will we ever return to a world where wearing a mask is not normal? It's unlikely, and if the photos from the new seasons of NBC's 'Chicago' shows prove anything, it is that this is the new normal.

In all three shows, the effects of the pandemic are clearly seen, with the most, of course, being on 'Chicago Med', where the doctors will be directly dealing with the pandemic and its repercussions. Meanwhile, 'Chicago PD' shows that the Intelligence Unit will be suited up and wearing masks as well, as they continue to deal with crime. The police procedural will also be taking a new direction to address the issue of police brutality. Meanwhile, 'Chicago Fire' sees the arrival of a new character as Firehouse 51 continues to deal with emergency situations as well.

Read on to know the synopses for the premiere episodes of the new seasons of all three 'Chicago' shows. All three shows will have shortened seasons (15 episodes each) this year due to the late start because of the pandemic.

'Chicago Med'

Photos for the new season of 'Chicago Med' shows the hospital featured on the show will be directly dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. So far, we have only seen news reports of how patients are forced to spend their last minutes away from family to avoid the spread of the disease. With the commencement of Season 6 of 'Chicago Med', we will see these stories being played out. Given that 'Chicago Med' has often been lauded as one of the most accurate medical dramas on television, we are anticipating the show's return and how the writers will be depicting the Covid-19 pandemic.

The synopsis for the Season 6 premiere of 'Chicago Med' states: "In the Season six premiere, the entire staff at Chicago Med adjusts to the new normal of the pandemic. Dr Ethan Choi (Brian Tee), Dr James Lanik (Nate Santana), and nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) fight on the front lines. Dr Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) face a troubling reality. Dr Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) tries to clear the air with his daughter following recent developments."

'Chicago Med' Season 6 premieres on NBC on Wednesday, November 11, at 8/7c.

'Chicago Fire'

(NBC)

Unlike 'Chicago Med' and 'Chicago PD', 'Chicago Fire' (with the exception of all the precautions for the pandemic) could probably go on as normal. But the flagship 'Chicago' show is bound to make some interesting changes in how it moves forward with the new season. We know that Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) won't be returning and in place, there will be a new paramedic. Nevertheless, we would like to see how the situation in Firehouse 51 changes in the new season.

The synopsis for the Season 9 premiere of 'Chicago Fire' states: "In the Season 9 premiere, Firehouse 51 welcomes a new member to the team, whose presence could provide some complications. Sylvie Brett's (Kara Kilmer) leadership shines during a scary call. Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) sees great potential in Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and proposes an idea that could have lasting repercussions.

'Chicago Fire' Season 9 premieres on NBC on Wednesday, November 11, at 9/8c.

'Chicago PD'

(NBC)

When the 'Chicago' franchise returns, all eyes will be on 'Chicago PD'. We know that a new character is joining to address concerns of police brutality and on a show where the character of Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) is revered, it will be interesting to see whether Voight — who resorts to underhanded violence often to get difficult suspects to cooperate — will change. And if Voight changes, what does that mean for 'Chicago PD'?

The synopsis for the Season 8 premiere of 'Chicago PD' states: "The team responds to the shooting of a 5-year-old girl and they must work the case while facing new obstacles that come from the heightened attention on police reform. Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) is targeted by a group of officers who want to hurt him for standing against the blue wall. Voight questions whether he's cut out for a new form of policing as he manages oversight from the Chicago Police Department's deputy superintendent."

'Chicago PD' Season 8 premieres on NBC on Wednesday, November 11, at 10/9c.
