SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH: 'Storage Wars' star Gunter Nezhoda died at the age of 67 after losing battle to lung cancer just six months after he was diagnosed with the deadly disease. Gunter died in his sleep in Salt Lake City Tuesday night, March 21, due to complications from lung cancer, according to his son and 'Storage Wars' co-actor, Rene Nezhoda.

The devastated son said his beloved father was diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2022 after smoking for over three decades. The subsequent chemotherapy treatment reportedly left holes in his lungs. The reality star was flown to Utah for emergency surgery to treat his lungs, but doctors said they couldn't do anything more for him.

'People just loved him'

Rene paid tribute to his father while revealing the tragic update in a Twitter video. "I'm telling you guys this because I know that you guys connected with my dad. My dad was one of the guys on Storage Wars that never really got any hate, people just loved him and being around him, including the crew," he said. "Everybody loved working with my dad, so I appreciate the support," Rene continued.

He further added, "A lot of people have been asking how my dad is doing and I just haven't really talked about anything because we kept it private and we thought he was going to fully recover but unfortunately he didn't. He was 67 years old and all the love that you guys have shown him and support he really appreciated that. And so hopefully he's up there in heaven with my mom, dancing again with no more pain." Rene also stated that Gunter's youngest son Ricky was with him at the time of his death on Tuesday

Tributes poured in from Gunter's 'Storage Wars' fanbase following Rene's update. "Damn Rene sorry for your loss really loved seeing him on the show and seeing the banter that you both had on the show was great! But Again he will be missed!!! #ripgunternezhoda," one wrote. "He was awesome on the show, always good for a laugh," another offered.

"My condolences Rene your Father was a great addition to the show the best part was he was just being himself. I’m sure being on the show with you would have been a really proud moment in his life and something you can cherish forever. Cancer really does suck," someone else commented.
