'Record of Youth' the recently concluded tvN show starring Park Bo-gum and Park So-dam had left fans disappointed. It was expected to depict the struggles, strife and successes of youth that run behind making their dreams come true. The only difference between 'Record of Youth' and 'Start-Up' is that the former was set within the entertainment industry while the latter is set within the tech industry. Both the shows have a stunning and talented cast who are well-known for their excellent works in the past. The only reason why the 'Record of Youth' truly failed was its writing.

Sure, the editing had cost the show a lot as they experimented with a non-linear narrative, but were it accompanied by strong direction and writing; 'Record of Youth' had the potential to have been one of the best shows of the year. So fans have noticed how shows of the same theme have come to differ so much. One fan wrote on Reddit, "This drama is everything I expected 'Record of Youth' (ROY) to be. Young, ambitious people trying to find their way in a competitive world. I didn’t have high hopes for this show because of ROY, but I get more impressed every single episode."

Many fans agreed and also replied on this thread to add their opinion. One wrote, "THIS!!! I couldn’t have said it in better words myself. This was the energy I was expecting in ROY and instead I was met with a kind of flatness." Another fan commented, "So true I totally did not get the hype , because it was awfully too flat to watch."

Another fan wrote, "Yes, I thought ROY was a great show until the second half rolled around and felt like I couldn't trust Kdramas to be good again. But this show has been making up for it more than enough, and hopefully, they would continue this pace for the rest of the show!!" Many seemed to agree as one fan responded, "Damn, maybe this is why I’m enjoying Start-Up so much? I watched the two dramas on-air and I didn’t realize how much I longed for that youth typa vibe."

It was clear that 'Start-Up' achieved what 'Record of Youth' had set out to do. One fan expressed, "I can actually relate to this show. Facing challenges, self-doubt, anxiety, uncertainty, rejection, and obstacles while trying to pursue a career path. Ugh, I’m going through it now and this is just a reminder to myself to keep pushing. This too shall pass and it’ll be worth it one day, iA." One fan, who seemed to hate 'Record of Youth' a lot wrote, "The incombustible bag has more character development than any of the characters in ROY."

What do you think of 'Start-up' so far? Start-up stars Bae Suzy, Nam Joo-hyuk, Kim Sun-ho, Seo Dal-mi, Nam Do-san and Han Ji-pyeong among others.

'Start-Up' will air on tvN on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 pm KST and can be streamed on Netflix in the US.
