In a statement, the Steelers said, "We are aware of an unfortunate incident that occurred inside Acrisure Stadium today," adding, "We are working with local authorities and helping their investigation into the matter. We are sending our thoughts and prayers to the guest's family."

The circumstances surrounding the man's fall are yet to come to light though several people have speculated how the fan fell off the escalator. Many expressed their disdain for those who cannot handle their drink. There were yet others who suspected that a rush at the escalator could have resulted in the man losing his balance and falling off. Other users on Twitter have admonished people for their insensitive comments.

"A. even if it was a dumb mistake now's not the time B. how do you know it was a complete accident out of the victim's control?" wrote one person, while another suggested, "probably a ton of people leaving at the same time."

One person revealed a similar problem at the old San Diego stadium: "I've seen that happen at the old San Diego stadium. They had this 2ft wide aluminum thing adjacent to the escalator. If you're drunk enough ? Looks like an 80 ft slide. But there's a sidewalk at the bottom. Never a good ending." Somebody else related their experience at the Acrisure Stadium, writing, "Season ticket holder here. Getting in and out of that place is a HAZARD!!! The escalators are a problem. It really sucks that this happened. Fix the problems!!"
