'Sopranos' star Joe Pantoliano suffers 'severe head injury' after being hit by a car while on a walk
'Sopranos' and 'Bad Boys for Life' star Joe Pantoliano is currently recovering after being hit by a car.
The 68-year-old actor was on a walk in his neighborhood on Friday, May 1, when he suffered a "severe head injury" after being struck by a vehicle. His agent Barry McPherson confirmed the accident. He also suffered an injury to his left leg and shoulder.
Following the collision, he was rushed to the hospital where he underwent a CT scan to find out just how serious the injuries were. He is now home from the hospital, where he is "being monitored for a concussion and chest trauma". "He did receive stitches as well. He is grateful for the concern and good wishes of his fans," his agent confirmed.
The injuries look really serious but even so, the actor took to Instagram to share an image of his flashing the thumbs up and a smile. The image also featured the gruesome gash on the top of his head. "Joey is home recovering. He has a severe head injury and some chest trauma. He is going to be dark for a couple [of] days while recovering," the image was captioned on Instagram. He's got 10 stitches for the bad head gash he suffered.
"Thank you for all the well wishes and positive vibes. Keep them coming! We'll [be] reading them to him to help him get better!"
It was his wife Nancy Sheppard who told the press how the accident went down. According to reports, she said that a vehicle collided with another car and skidded into Pantoliano. As a result of which he was flung back into a wooden fence from the impact. Joe later told The Sun that as he and his wife were strolling, a car took a left turn onto their street which hit a Porsche SUV “without breaking” - causing the Porsche to ram into him. Joe told them that the car that collided with him “was sliding on all four wheels.” “So it’s not like I just got hit by the front, I got hit by the complete side,” he said. The crash was so bad, both cars involved were “completely totaled,” Joe revealed.
The Wilton Police Department says that the car accident is under investigation right now and is yet to confirm details that Pantoliano was struck.
Just before the accident, on May 1 morning, he shared a video of a rainbow when he and his family set out on a walk. "Look at the rainbow. How do you like that beauty?" the actor is heard saying off the camera.
Earlier this year in February, his wife shared an image on Instagram that marked their 26th wedding anniversary. "Happy 26th to my partner. It has been a wild ride and I am looking forward to the next 26th," she captioned a throwback photo. "I couldn't ... wouldn't want anyone else but you. I love you more every day. ❣😘😍 #weddedbliss."
