LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Skywalkers: A Love Story' started streaming on Netflix on July 19, 2024. The pulsating documentary features a daring couple Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus who seek thrill in scaling rooftops and climbing to the top of buildings without a harness.
Ivan Beerkus and Angela Nikolau's journey is traced in the documentary from being lone wolves scaling peaks for social media recognition to getting together in a relationship where they spend most of their time scaling heights and enjoying their passion together.
However, like most love stories, this one hits a major roadblock as they grow apart when things go south in the relationship. External factors and self-doubt creep in as they lose trust in each other and begin to question their love. They do find their love though in the unlikeliest of situations.
Angela and Ivan find their love again hiding from security
While this film is a documentary, life scripts a perfect obstacle for them as they are about to be caught by security guards and forced to hide in a cave for 19 hours.
It is situations like these that test the fortitude of love and the extent a person is willing to go for their partner. When Angela is fading, we see Ivan take a risk and go out. This is among those moments when a heroic act makes a person believe that their partner is willing to go to any extent and risk it all for them.
In the beginning of the film, we see a similar situation where Ivan gets himself arrested for Angela and here we see another moment where Ivan takes a risk for Angela. This time though, their relationship has been through a lot of ups and downs, and for Ivan to still take that risk for her proves to her that he loves her beyond anything.
Angela and Ivan champion each other in difficult situations
Two moments in the final moments of the movie prove that they are perfect for each other. Ivan is losing hope when he finds locked doors everywhere and Angela is the first to see this. The moment she sees him losing hope, she is quick to make him believe in his abilities yet again. He finally finds a way after Angela's support.
The other moment is when they finally reach the top and have to perform the acrobatics. This is when there is a certain unwillingness that has crept up in Angela. Ivan assures her, holds her tight, and lifts her communicating in physical language about how safe she is in his arms. She realizes it and says it out too when she tells him how safe she felt once he lifted her.
At that moment, we see them regaining the trust they had lost in each other when Angela started to have panic attacks and when they felt that they were not good enough anymore. The toughest of climbs brought out the best in them and their love.
