LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Simone Biles took the holy vows with Jonathan Owens on April 22 in a courthouse wedding. After the nuptials, the Olympic gymnast surprised her fans on Instagram with an Ask Me Anything session about her big destination wedding. However, she had an unexpected response when one fan asked if she was allowing her guests to bring plus-ones to her destination wedding.

The acclaimed athlete, 26, declared that her guests were not allowed to bring one more person with them. The decision raised eyebrows since Biles has a net worth of over $16M and those additional guests should not be an issue for her. However, the gymnastics legend finally revealed the reason behind her decision on her Instagram Stories.

'I didn’t want to meet any new people'

“Ask any of your wedding guests if they need a plus one. I love wedding season," one fan asked. Biles responded by saying, “Unfortunately, since we wanted it to be as intimate as possible we did not allow plus 1’s.” She added, “I know this is so controversial but I’m always meeting people on a day-to-day basis & I love that & y’all but on my wedding day I didn’t want to meet any new people.”

Biles also hinted at the decision in an earlier Instagram Story, when a guest asked her, "Can I bring a plus one?” She responded by posting a funny clip that featured pop legend Mariah Carey firmly refusing to a question by saying, "Absolutely not…why would you ask me that question," and later laughing loudly. The gymnast was tickled by the meme shared by the Instagram handle ‘Theweddingcoordinators’ and posted five laughing emoticons.

Biles explained that she and Owens were planning to do a mini-moon instead of a proper honeymoon owing to Owens' football season. She said they would have a proper honeymoon in 2024. Biles will apparently have eight bridesmaids while Owens will have seven groomsmen for the wedding.
