What happened to Wellingtons on Shark Tank?
In Season 15, Episode 3 of 'Shark Tank', Arya and Tasha Alexander stepped into the limelight, presenting their business, Wellingtons LA, to the esteemed panel of Sharks.
They sought a $200,000 investment in exchange for a 10% stake in their company. As the Sharks marveled at the stunning display of perfectly presented wellingtons, it was the exceptional taste of their product that truly captivated the potential investors.
As the Sharks delved deeper into the financials of Wellingtons LA, Arya revealed that despite generating $313,000 in sales the previous year, the company incurred a substantial loss of $260,000. Upon learning that a significant portion of their sales came from their partnership with Goldbelly, Kevin O'Leary pointed out the challenge of profitability with the platform taking a cut.
Consequently, he opted out of making an offer, suggesting instead that the Alexanders transition to a direct-to-consumer business model. Guest Shark Michael Rubin concurred with O'Leary's assessment and also declined to invest.
Mark Cuban echoed the sentiment, advising the Alexanders to expand their business beyond the digital realm by establishing connections with event coordinators. Subsequently, he too withdrew his interest. Lori Greiner followed suit, citing her limited interest in meat products as her reason for passing on the opportunity.
With all the other Sharks out, attention turned to Barbara Corcoran. While she remained intrigued by the business, ultimately, Corcoran concluded that she couldn't provide the assistance the Alexanders needed, leading to their departure from the tank without a deal.
What is the story behind Wellingtons?
On his website, Wellingtons co-founder Arya Alexander shares the origin story of the business, recounting a pivotal moment during the pandemic.
He writes,"One fateful pandemic night in, my fiancé Anastasia and I were trying to solve one of the biggest mysteries plaguing modern couples - what the hell are we gonna eat for dinner?! Our stomachs were growling and our minds were racing as we played the kitchen drums for inspiration. Every recipe we came across was either too complicated or too boring. But, little did we know, we were on the brink of culinary greatness."
For the next three months, Arya and Anastasia embarked on a culinary journey, dedicating each Wednesday to crafting Wellingtons for their friends and family. Alongside their now-famous chicken pot pie, they have also introduced Salmon Wellys to the menu and experimented with new creations such as the Breakfast Welly and Burger Welly.
Furthermore, amidst their entrepreneurial journey, Arya and Anastasia celebrated a significant milestone by tying the knot in June 2022, marking both a personal and professional triumph for the Wellingtons LA team.
