NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Serena Williams is giving fans a close-up look at the moment she and her husband Alexis Ohanian told their daughter Olympia that she would soon become a big sister. The tennis great, 41, posted a cute video on Instagram on Saturday, May 6, 2023, that shows the couple sitting down with the 5-year-old to deliver the joyful news, just days after she and Ohanian, 40, announced their second pregnancy at the 2023 Met Gala.
The couple got married in 2017, and already have a 5-year-old daughter named Olympia. Williams earlier announced the exciting news on Instagram as she wrote, "Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala." 'Olympia does not know'
Williams stated in the clip, "Olympia does not know right now that I am pregnant, so the big reveal will be at the Met, and then before we leave, I'll tell Olympia." The athlete continued, "The reason I haven't told her is because she can't keep a secret."
The clip, which also shows Williams getting ready for the Met Gala behind the scenes ends before she can break the news to her little child. "Stay tuned..." Williams captioned the video with "link in bio to subscribe," hinting that more of the memorable moment will be uploaded to YouTube later.
The video's footage was captured just before Williams and her husband, who is the co-founder of Reddit, revealed their second pregnancy to the world this week. Williams uploaded a carousel of images of herself and Ohanian on Instagram before walking the Met Gala red carpet, revealing her baby bump beneath her clothing, as per People. The athlete captioned the images, "Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala."
'Nothing is a sacrifice for me when it comes to Olympia'
After Williams announced that her daughter wanted to be a big sister, she then revealed that she was expecting her second child. Williams stated in a first-person essay she penned for Vogue just in 2022 that she "never thought about having kids" at the beginning of her career and that she was beginning an "evolution" away from tennis and her goals of growing her family.
"There were times when I've wondered if I should ever bring kids into this world, with all its problems. I was never that confident or comfortable around babies or children, and I figured that if I ever did have a baby, I would have people taking care of it 24/7," the retired tennis player said. Williams said that even while she has "a lot of support," she is also an "incredibly hands-on mother" to Olympia, who will be a big sister.
The four-time Olympic gold medalist said, "In five years, Olympia has only spent one 24-hour period away from me. This past year, while I was recovering from a hamstring injury, I got to pick her up from school four or five days a week, and I always looked forward to seeing her face light up when she walked out of the building and saw me waiting there for her."
The second time expecting athlete added, "The fact is that nothing is a sacrifice for me when it comes to Olympia."
