'Secret Invasion': Are Nick Fury and Talos friends? Skrull general may be hiding his true intentions
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Marvel is back with yet another intriguing tale of the world at risk by a shapeshifting alien species. Unfortunately for Earth, these aliens have decided to occupy powerful positions. ‘Secret Invasion’ boasts an ensemble cast comprising Samuel L Jackson, Emilia Clarke, Cobie Smulders, Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Coleman, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Christopher McDonald, all of whom are expected to turn the show into another Marvel classic.
The series focuses on Nick Fury (Jackson), who returns to Earth after a long space mission and is ambushed by the Skrulls. Their powers allow them to shapeshift into any human, making it nearly impossible to differentiate between a human and a Skrull. Fury comes across the descendants of the Skrull empire, led by a general, Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who first made an appearance in ‘Captain Marvel.’ At the time, the Skrulls fled from their planet due to an intergalactic war and were looking for shelter. Fury promised them home but failed to deliver on that promise. In ‘Secret Invasion’, a group of Skrull extremists is back to take what Fury promised — a home, and that home, for now, is Earth. However, given that Talos was a Skrull general once upon a time, will he help his kind secure a home or help Fury save the planet?
Fury and Talos were friends first
Fury came across the Skrulls in ‘Captain Marvel’. The movie took place in the mid-90s, when Fury was yet to find out that superpowers or superheroes exist. He finds Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel and learns about Skrulls and their battle against another species, the Kree. Talos was helping the Skrulls find a home after the Kree destroyed their planet. The Skrulls are not the bad guys in the movie and only seek refuge.
Captain Marvel and Fury help Talos fight the Kree and promise him a home for the Skrull. Talos extremely delighted with the prospect of a new safe planet for their species. Fury and Talos become close friends as the latter even covers for Fury when he is not on Earth, something that ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ showed us. The duo had been on good terms but in ‘Secret Invasion’, Talos might have to choose between humanity and his kind.
Is Talos Nick Fury's ally?
‘Captain Marvel’ showed an alliance between Captain Marvel, Nick Fury and Talos. However, when Talos first arrived on Earth, he impersonated a SHIELD director, signaling that he was not just finding a refuge but looking for something more. He showed that it was easy to infiltrate humanity and manipulate people to their advantage. His actions may lead one to believe that he was not a true friend to humans and he was masking his true motives, which might include complete world domination by betraying Fury.
‘Secret Invasion’ will release on Disney+ on June 21.
