'Schitt's Creek' actress Emily Hampshire wants to play She-Hulk, says it is 'such a cool character'
Last year 'Avengers: Endgame' marked the end of Phase 3 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was a bittersweet conclusion to 10 years worth of storytelling and a goodbye to characters that we had grown to love 3000. But that wasn't the end, and the story will be carried on with new players. Much to the excitement of fans, a series of new films and television shows featuring many of our beloved characters were announced, including 'Black Widow', 'Dr Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness', and 'The Eternals', along with the Disney+ series like 'Loki', 'WandaVision', 'The Falcon And The Winter Soldier' and 'She-Hulk'. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the production on most of these shows have had to be stalled, but nevertheless they will return eventually and regale us with some thrilling tales.
Marvel films are so firmly embedded in our popular culture that it's no surprise that many actors wish to enter into the superhero game. In a recent interview, Emily Hampshire of 'Schitt's Creek' fame expressed her desire of playing 'She-Hulk'. She also opened up about playing Spider-Woman, a role she previously expressed an interest in on Twitter.
She said, "I would love to do that [play Spider-Woman]," Hampshire said. "I didn't know where that came from, but wherever it came from, I agree and I like it. I would be just good at it. I would be so into that."
About She-Hulk, she said, "The only other one I can think of is -- I'd be very into playing She-Hulk. I know that's happening, I've been hearing something about that. I didn't realize that -- I looked up the comic book and I didn't realize she was such a... You think of She-Hulk and muscles and stuff, but the person who's behind it is just such a cool character. So that, or I'd just love to play a comic book character. I think that would be the coolest thing."
There's no certainty about Spider-Woman making it to the big screen, as fans hope the character gets her own film at Marvel or Sony studios. A film was rumored to be in development this year, but there have been no updates on this, as yet. 'She Hulk' is expected to drop next year.
Hampshire will also be seen in Quibi's '50 States Of Fright'. Speaking about what drew her to the show, she said, "It's produced by Sam Raimi, which was definitely something that drew me to it. He's a legend in the horror world. I also love anthologies. I think I may be the perfect audience search for Quibi, because I'm a very bite-size kind of person. I can't actually watch long things. The most I can watch is a little episode of Forensic Files, and anything longer than that is too much. So this seemed like the coolest thing, especially the new platform of it. And then when I read the script, the story, my episode is called 'Scared Stiff', and it's about this taxidermy urban legend. Not only is it about taxidermy, but it's also about a Yeti that gets taxidermied."
With regard to 'She-Hulk', Jennifer Walter's character was expected to headline the Disney+ series in the previous summer, which would follow the character's life as a high-profile lawyer and superhero. Earlier, there were reports that Marvel was looking for an 'Alison Brie type' person to play the role.
