After the Florida Senate passed the controversial 'Don't Say Gay' bill that would limit what classrooms can teach about sexual orientation and gender identity, actor Mark Hamill took to Twitter to express his opposition to it. Officially known as the 'Parental Rights in Education Bill,' it states that if teachers fail to comply with it, they will face lawsuits.

"Florida's students spoke loud and clear this week against the GOP's bill to cancel free speech and LGBTQ people, and they're going to #SayGayAnyway. RT if you will too," read the tweet by @OccupyDemocrats, which Hamill quoted and said, "gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay [rainbow emoji]."

Hamill's tweet was reported, after which he got a message from Twitter saying, "Hello, Twitter is required by German law to provide notice to users who are reported by people from Germany via the Network Enforcement Act reporting flow. We have received a complaint regarding your account @Hamill Himself, for the following content." The message then shows that the 'content' mentioned was Hamill's 'gay' tweet. "We have investigated the reported content and have found that it is not subject to removal under the Twitter Rules or German law," the message concluded.

The-70-year-old posted a screenshot of the message and captioned it, "Thanks for informing me of the complaint from the German people- I had no intention of violating the Network Enforcement Act & am relieved to learn that tweeting the word 'gay' 69 times with a rainbow emoji is NOT subject to removal under the @Twitter rules or German law [red heart emoji] -mh."

People came out in support of the 'Star Wars' veteran under his tweet. "Why would you say something so stunning yet so brave?" asked one user, while another replied with a gif that said, "That's what heroes do!" A third thanked him and wrote, "Mark, you honestly are a wonderful person, thank you so much for living up to your Jedi Character in real life... thank you for validating the existence of the LGBTQAI community. I’m a Transgender mother married to a beautiful LGBTQ woman, we have a 12 year old who just came out [lgbt flag emoji]."

One user commented, "Thank you Mark. You’re not just an acting legend, but a human rights champion. Thank you for using your platform to fight for equality," while another said, "Damn. You're freakin' awesome." A third added, "I didn't think you could possibly get any cooler. [read heart emoji] [rainbow emoji]."

Meanwhile, conservative figure and host Ben Shapiro quoted Hamill's tweet and wrote, "So I take it you wish to indoctrinate small children into gender and sexual ideology. Because that's the only reason you're parroting idiotic propaganda." Hamill replied by saying, "Hi Ben, I LOVE mind-reading acts! Now guess which finger I'm holding up... [red heart emoji] - Mar [camel emoji]."
