Outrage after filming for Ryan Gosling's ‘The Fall Guy’ on Sydney Harbour Bridge causes traffic delays
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: Ryan Gosling is facing criticism after he was spotted filming an action scene for his upcoming movie 'The Fall Guy' at the Sydney Harbour Bridge on Sunday, January 22, 2023. The 'La La Land' actor caused a major public outrage as the filming stopped traffic flow across one of the city's busiest expressways.
According to the DailyMail, the iconic bridge was closed in both directions from 3 am to 10 am during the shoot, while the path for pedestrians and cycleway was closed from 5:30 am to 10 am. The Cahill Expressway walkway was shut from 2:30 am to 12:30 pm. Displeased with the filming hampering their daily lives, the residents of Sydney took to Twitter to criticize the production for causing major traffic delays across the city. "Great to see the closure of the Sydney Harbour Bridge - 8 lanes, plus cycle/pedestrian lanes - so they could film a f**king movie. But it’s great that they can use an iconic bridge in a film because that bridge needs a bit of exposure," a frustrated fan tweeted, as per the outlet.

Great to see the closure of the Sydney Harbour Bridge - 8 lanes, plus cycle/pedestrian lanes - so they could film a fucking movie. But it’s great that they can use an iconic bridge in a film because that bridge needs a bit of exposure. #SydneyHarbourBridge #sydney #wtf

"I just want to know how much they paid the government for such an inconvenience," read a tweet, while another user added, "Surely with movie technology, this could’ve been filmed elsewhere and then rejigged to appear as if filmed on the Harbour Bridge."
A third tweet read, "I just heard that the NSW government paid $1.5 million towards Ryan Gosling to film over the Harbour Bridge. Hope they didn't wake up the 100s homeless that call under the bridge home."

Piss off, Ryan Gosling: take your stunts to some derelict roadway and film it there. Don’t interrupt daily life of our city again, you overpaid egotist. Surely with movie technology, this could’ve been filmed elsewhere and then rejigged to appear as if filmed on Bridge 😡🇦🇺😡

A Neutral Bay resident recounted the choppers buzzing around the densely populated area in the early hours to the media outlet and described it as a “nightmare.” Gosling appeared to be shooting for the epic scenes in the film as the full-scale production saw the bridge loaded with filmmaking equipment as well as a number of cars and trucks.
'The Fall Guy' began filming in September under the ‘John Wick' director David Leitch. It is based on the 1980s television series of the same name which revolved around the life of a stuntman who led a double life as a bounty hunter. Besides Gosling, ‘The Fall Guy’ also stars Teresa Palmer, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Winston Duke. While Dwayne Johnson was in negotiations to serve as the main lead, film producer Kelly McCormick has no regrets and is in "awe" about ending up with "such an extraordinary cast and incredible actors," as per Collider.
