‘Run' Season 2: Is the HBO series canceled or will it be renewed? Fans call original 'waste of budget'

It only took HBO seven episodes to narrate the story of former college sweethearts Billy Johnson (Domhnall Gleeson) and Ruby Richardson (Merritt Wever), who try to run away from their respective lives seeking solace in each other’s company. Although ‘Run’ was deemed a comedy series, the viewers witnessed a lot more drama and an enormous display of sexuality through the lens of the characters. The series concluded last Sunday (May 24) with an ending that merely came across as a conclusion to the majority of the viewers.

Soon after the original series ended, fans started flooded social media with tweets regarding the sequel of the show executive-produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Meanwhile, reports are suggesting that ‘Run’ may not grace television anytime soon to continue Billy and Ruby’s story. When the creator of the show, Vicky Jones, was asked during an interview with Deadline if they are planning on creating ‘Run 2’, she responded, “I can’t say too much. We don’t know yet. But, you don’t have an actor like Rich Sommer and not make the most of something like that. For sure, we cast him very purposely because we knew we wanted to tell more of that story, but at the same time it’s called Run, and so the show has forward momentum. We can’t just sit still in the story.”

However, when questioned about the script for the second season, she further confirmed, “Oh, no. It’s not been confirmed yet. We would love, love, love to keep going and keep running. I certainly have a thousand ideas.” Meanwhile, fans of ‘Run’ who seem to be highly disappointed with the ending, are demanding a second season only to achieve a better clarity about the plotline. While one fan wrote, “HBO's Run had a great pilot and laid the path for a really interesting show. Thought with each episode it got less intriguing and dumber capping off with an awful finale. Sours me on wanting another Season. Really disappointed with this one.”

“Man...that season finale for ‘Run’ had better not be the ending...there’s so many unanswered questions. Come on HBO, at least give it a season 2 to wrap things up.” added another. Another disappointed fan tweeted, “I don't know who's directing RUN but they went too far with the 'deeper meaning' shit that HBO has been perpetuating through a lot of their original series. It just really sucks....a whole waste of a budget.”
