'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', created by Ira Parker, has gained popularity quickly as a 'Game of Thrones' prequel show, with Season 1 coming to a close.

'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to ramping up the hype towards an impending finale episode. The recently aired fifth episode saw Bertie Gavel's Prince Baelor Targaryen shockingly succumbing to an accidental rear head blow. Prince Baelor's death not only reconfirmed the grim workings of fate in the world of the 'Game of Thrones' prequel show but also indicated that the upcoming sixth and final episode, which airs on Sunday, February 22, on HBO, will be a memorable one. The popularity of the HBO show has already prompted many fans to eagerly anticipate Season 2. However, the second instalment is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2027.

'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' was renewed for a second season even before the debut installment had hit the waves. On November 20, 2025, Casey Bloys, CEO and Chairman of HBO Max Content and HBO, announced the news at the network's press presentation in New York. On the other hand, HBO's Head of Drama Series and Films, Francesca Orsi, had revealed the future of the prequel show in an interview with Deadline. While asserting that 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' was built on a more 'intimate' scale as compared to the epic original show, Orsi also detailed that the network planned a three-season run for the show, thus adapting three novellas from author George R. R. Martin's 'Dunk and Egg' novella series.

Orsi noted, "You’re going to be so impressed by Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell as Dunk and Egg, the two leads. So much so that we’re already planning on how do we build this for the three seasons in total.” In addition to the Peter Claffey show, HBO also renewed the other 'GoT' spinoff, i.e., 'House of the Dragon', for its Season 4. "We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe," Orsi continued." Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, House of the Dragon is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”

Set more than nine decades before the events of 'GoT' and seventy-two years after those of 'House of the Dragon', 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' stars Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell in the leading roles of Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg, or a young Aegon Targaryen, respectively. The show is available exclusively on HBO.
