Rumors of Brittney Griner being engaged to Anthony Davis resurface amid her nine-year prison sentence

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brittney Griner’s life looks bleak as she faces nine years in a Russian prison for allegedly carrying vape cartridges with hashish oil to the country. But at one point, things may have looked up for the WNBA’s two-time Defensive Player of the Year with the rumors of her engagement to NBA star Anthony Davis resurfacing. It is also to be noted that while many have voiced support for Griner and have pushed for her to be let out, Davis hasn’t said anything, probably something to do with their alleged past relationship.

Griner had reportedly married her fellow WNBA layer Glory Johnson, but that marriage did not last long, as per Marca. She filed for an annulment soon after and then it would seem that the basketball player started dating Lakers player Anthony Davis, as per the now resurfaced rumors.

While not many knew of the fling at the time with it being kept very much under wraps, Davis did apparently speak of it once and he sounded very much in love. He also quipped about how they wear clothes and shoes of the same size, so they share their stuff every once in a while. “She is everything to me… We have an amazing relationship and have so much in common. We even wear the same size clothes and shoes so sometimes she borrows a shirt or two from me," as per the news outlet. 

However, seems the romance did not last long. They reportedly ended their romance shortly after, with no explanation from either party. While the whole timeline of their romance is very unclear, it can be said that they were allegedly actively together in 2015, following Johnson and Griner’s annulment. But rumors of the two being engaged had first seen light as early as 2013. But Davis was very quick to debunk those engagement rumors. He posted a tweet clarifying his situation on Twitter, saying, “Whoever made that rumor up about me being engaged is corny. I am NOT engaged people!!"

As far as the current situation is concerned, the US Government has been working on a prisoner exchange program with Russia to help bring Griner home. A lot of theories as to how Griner may come back have been circulating but none have gathered steam the way her dating rumors resurfacing have. Some users on Twitter also took to the platform to express their shock and confusion.

One user posted, “Finding out that Anthony Davis and Brittney Griner dated just confused the hell out of me,” and another said, “Anthony Davis and Brittney Griner used to be engaged. Wow!” A third user had also posted, “Soooooo were #AnthonyDavis and #BrittneyGriner a thing??? I never heard about the original rumors but I see they are popping back #WNBATwitter #NBATwitter.”
