With more and more traditional bands taking over the K-pop scene after the success of DAY6 and N.Flying, fans were excited for the debut of JYPE’s second band Xdinary Heroes. While idol groups have been dominating the music industry in South Korea, the general public has been more receptive to bands like ONEWE, 2Z, Rolling Quartz, and Surl. We even have Mnet launching their first band survival show ‘Great Seoul Invasion’ which would give a global platform to Korean bands.

Well, JYPE revealed in late 2021 that their next debut would be of the boy band Xdinary Heroes. They were embroiled in a plagiarism controversy before their debut as fans and non-fans felt that there were glaring similarities between the upcoming band and the K-pop group Monsta X from the logo and the name to members’ stage names. However, Xdinary Heroes’ debut went smoothly as they released their first digital single ‘Happy Death Day’ on December 6.

Xdinary Heroes' inactivity

But despite the pomp and celebration, Xdinary Heroes have since then been away from the public’s eye. There hasn’t been any update about them since and they have been pretty inactive on social media as well. Their first-ever comeback was teased in late April but that was it. However, their female rookie counterpart NMIXX which only debuted in February has been extremely active, attending several events, ensemble concerts like KCON, and appearing on TV programs. They also got a fandom name and a mini-album, while Xdinary Heroes still have not.

And while fans are not sure if anyone blamed the boy band for their inactivity, Xdinary Heroes took it upon themselves to apologize. On an Instagram post, the band wrote that since December they were working on themselves and what they lacked. Xdinary Heroes added, “We sincerely apologize to all the fans who have been waiting for us, and also want to say thank you for your endless support. We still lack in some parts, but we will continue to work hard and show how we can improve. Please look forward to our growth. We, Xdinary Heroes, will do anything to give your unconditional love back.”

Ever since the post, the boys have been more active even on YouTube as we got three vlogs while they were practicing, having meals, and going through their first official merch. But with their agency having a say on the band’s activities, fans are slamming JYPE for rushing their debut and then keeping them away from the spotlight for months. Even their oldest group 2PM has been more active ever since they reunited, while NMIXX, their newest group is constantly in the news.

'Are they gonna be locked in the basement?'

One upset fan tweeted, “I honestly feel so bad for xdinary heroes, their debut was so rushed and they didn't even have anyone come to their first showcase event bec it was offline, they debuted with nothing..just one song and no bsides or album, they don't even have a fandom name, they still haven't met.”

One fan simply posted, “Xdinary Heroes deserve better.” Another fan wondered, “I was looking at JYPE's schedule for the second half of this year and from what I saw, there was literally no mention of XH. Are they just gonna be locked in the basement forever or???"

One fan commented, “It's embarrassing the way jype is treating xdinary heroes.” Another shared, “We're going halfway through debut anniversary and xdinary heroes still have one song, one instrumental, some cover songs, and a fanmade fandom name, tHEY EVEN MADE THEM SILENT FOR TWO F**KING MONTHS?!?!! STUDJ U ARE A LIL BEACH. XH DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER.”

One added, “Remember when xdinary heroes dropped this 35-second vid, it actually garnered almost 750k views. And if you scroll into the comsec, a lot of ppl were hyped and is actually waiting for a cb. Look at how much potential your artists have, Studio J.”

Another said, “Everything about jype feels werid this year I don't understand what this company even thinking. Xh debut was so rushed while they already had a pre debut group from a survival show waiting to debut (they are still waiting and ia since October) and debuted a gg 2 months after.”

One fan posted, “I honestly feel bad for them, like jype really made these guys put out an apology post on insta for their inactivity when it really just comes down to JYPE not giving them any f**king work/promotions whatsoever after they debuted.” Another pleaded, “The way they were rushed to debut only to be given just one song and then put on hiatus for months… @jypnation I'm ready and willing to spend my money to buy xdinary heroes album if you would only release one I'm begging.”
