Robert Griffin III tells Miami Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa to sit out season after THIRD concussion scare in 2022
BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT: In a fiery speech on ESPN, Robert Griffin III demanded that Tua Tagovailoa sit out the remainder of the NFL season after being placed in concussion protocol once again. The Miami Dolphins quarterback, 24, is in the concussion protocol for the second time this season and has had three grave head injuries already in 2022, the first of which officials may have overlooked against the Buffalo Bills.
Fans speculated that Tagovailoa's concussion may have resulted from being knocked down on a play just before halftime of the Dolphins' Christmas Day loss to the Packers. Despite throwing three interceptions in the fourth quarter, Tagovailoa continued to play in the game.

Tagovailoa suffered his second concussion just four days since the Bills game incident in which he smacked his head on the ground and had struggled to stand up straight. He was knocked to the ground by 6-foot-3, 340-pound Bengals defensive tackle Josh Tupou after which he was carried off the field on a stretcher and rushed to the hospital after taking the fencing position, as per Daily Mail.
Saw this live. And I recorded it because I knew as soon as I saw it. This happened late in the 1st half. And I believe Tua played 2nd half with a concussion. His head bounced off the ground. And it was very similar to the hit in Cincinnati. 3 INTs in the 4th qtr. proved it to me. pic.twitter.com/Djl0xkGToX

When discussing Tagovailoa's situation on ESPN, Griffin said his worries go beyond the quarterback's availability for Miami's next game against the New England Patriots. "Our game has kind of moved to the softer side. Roughing the passer, it's more like touching the passer now. But when we talk about these head injuries, it's nothing to play with. You've got to put the person before the player," Griffin said. "I'm more concerned about Tua and his family than I am about him playing the rest of the year."

The former quarterback mentioned athletes who had retired due to brain injuries, "We've seen guys like Luke Kuechly, a teammate of mine, Jordan Reed, have to retire because of these head injuries. Guys have gone off the field and done things to hurt themselves and their families because of things that were suffered on the field. CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy), all those things come into play." Griffin doesn't think Tagovailoa should make a quick comeback. "He should not play for the rest of the regular season," Griffin said. "Whether you call it two concussions or three, two incidents or three, it's a repeat." He added, "And the hit that we think he suffered the concussion on was not that violent of a hit. it was routine ply. But because his head smacked off the ground the repeat of all of those hits are starting to add up."

According to Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, there were no concerns about Tagovaiola's health during the game and he is currently questionable to play on Sunday against the New England Patriots for the Dolphins. The team's record is 8-7, with four losses.
