ANTIBES, FRANCE: Rita Wilson clarified what really happened on the red carpet when her husband Tom Hanks appeared to lash out at one of the festival's staff at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The Hollywood actor, 66, looked rather frustrated as he jabbed a finger at the unidentified individual while attending the premiere of his new film 'Asteroid City'.

Rita, who also stars in the film, was seen holding her hand up in front of her while speaking to the man in question. However, she has now revealed what actually transpired at the event, taking to Instagram just hours later to set the record straight about the supposed "altercation."

"This is called 'I can't hear you. People are screaming. What did you say? Where are we supposed to go?'" the actress, 66, wrote on her Instagram Stories over a screenshot of the news coverage of the incident. "We had a great time. Go see Asteroid City!" she added.

The man in question could be seen speaking to the pair in what appeared to be an attempt to calm them down. However, Tom seemed to remain miffed as the trio spoke before heading down the red carpet with his wife to pose for the cameras. The sensational moment went viral on social media, with many speculating what happened to elicit such a reaction from "one of the nicest guys in Hollywood." According to Rita, however, it was nothing more than a misunderstanding.

The moment was also discussed on May 24 on the Wednesday episode of 'Lorraine'. Host Lorraine Kelly asking her show business correspondent Tyler West whether Tom was indeed having a "rant" as some claimed. "Did he though?" Tyler responded. "Look at his smile. I don't think so! He was walking the red carpet, and that picture there, he just needs a wee! He wants to know where the toilet is." Lorraine added, "He's just asking, what way do I go? He's not shaking his fists." Tyler agreed, saying, "You can't believe everything you see in these pictures." Lorraine then added, "Sometimes the camera does lie."

Tom looked dapper in a black tuxedo and matching bow tie which he coupled with a white shirt for the premiere. Meanwhile, Rita oozed glamor in a fashionable black dress with a long black cloak that trailed the ground behind her. The outfit was adorned with silver jewels that glistened under the spotlights on the red carpet.

That said, both Tom and Rita seemed to be in good spirits for most of the evening as they posed for pictures before heading inside to watch the film.

'Asteroid City' is a coming-of-age movie about stargazing in the desert. Directed by Wes Anderson, the film is set in the 1950s in a fictional American desert town that has an eerie feel to it. Things go haywire at a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention when a world-changing event takes place. The story reportedly centers on a widower played by Jason Schwartzman who takes his children to see their grandfather, played by Tom Hanks.

The offbeat movie also stars Tom's wife Rita Wilson as well as Tilda Swinton, Matt Dillon, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, and Liev Schreiber. Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, and Maya Hawke make appearances as well. Other big names included in the film are Steve Carell, Willem Dafoe, Tony Revolori, Grace Edwards, Aristou Meehan, Sophia Lillis, Ethan Lee, and Jeff Goldblum.
