'I wouldn't have made a joke about his wife’s hair, I would have...': Ricky Gervais's savage response to Will Smith slap
Ricky Gervais cemented his legacy as the "master of roasts" with his hilarious Golden Globes gigs over many years. Ever since Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock for taking a shot at Jada Pinkett Smith's baldness at the 94th Academy awards, people have been waiting for Gervais's take on the whole incident.
Now the British comedian has shared his opinion on the controversy, insisting that he would never have joked about Pinkett-Smith's hair loss, but would have rather joked about her boyfriend.
The 60-year-old was originally pushed for his opinion on social media when Smith stormed onstage and smacked presenter Rock for making a "GI Jane 2" joke about Jada Smith's shaved head. Ricky's fans around the world were keen to know what he would have done if something like this happened when he was hosting an event.

At a show at London's Highgate this week, while testing new material, according to the Mirror, the comedian said, "I’ll get it out of the way. I have not got any Will Smith material. I trended when that happened and I was not even there."
"What has it got to do with me? People were going What would have happened if Ricky Gervais had been doing it (hosting Oscars)? Well, nothing as I would not have made a joke about his wife’s hair. I would have made a joke about her boyfriend."
Ricky is known for taking unforgiving digs at his fellow movie stars. While hosting the 77th Golden Globe Awards in 2020, he made jokes about Jeffrey Epstien, Harvey Weinstein and Prince Andrew, and tackled topics such as MeToo and ISIS as he left his A-list audience laughing and wincing during his opening monologue. In a particularly blunt moment, he even advised those receiving their awards to avoid making political speeches as they were in no position to tell the public about anything. He said, "If you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent, and your God and f**k off."
Meanwhile, Chris Rock has sort of broken his silence on the slap during his stand-up comedy show in Boston, saying, “I don’t have a bunch of stories about what happened, so if you came to here that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point I’ll talk about that . And it will be serious and funny.”
