Ricki Lake flaunts her one-year hair transformation with before and after photos amid battle with alopecia
Ricki Lake took to her Instagram to share a positive update about her battle with androgenetic alopecia on Wednesday, August 10. The former 'Gameshow Marathon' host, 53, shared a post capturing her stunning one-year hair transformation after battling hair loss for most of her life.
The post shared by the 'Hairspray' actress included two pictures; one that shows Ricki smiling after shaving her head due to hair condition, while in the other one Ricki looked gorgeous as she debuted a thick head of hair. While being honest about her journey and crediting her hair products for the transformation, Lake captioned the post, “For those of you who don’t know or don't remember my personal journey. These side by side show the dramatic success I’ve had using @harklinikken products.”
"I’ve been following their simple and easy protocol for over 2 years now. People ask all the time, I use their shampoo, and condition daily and their extract at night. I could not be happier with my results and to finally be at peace with my hair loss struggles," she explained.
"Pictures are taken just over a year apart," she revealed that the first picture was taken on December 31, 2019, while the second photo was taken on January 27, 2021.
Prior to delivering the good news, Ricki shared another news that she has started her own podcast. Alongside a video of her in front of a microphone, she wrote, “Friends, I am so excited to let you know that I’ve started recording my new podcast with the fabulous @thekalenallen! The show is called Raised by Ricki brought to you by @lemonadamedia."
The former show host never shies away from talking about her battle with hair loss and the lessons she learned when she was battling her inner demons during that tough time. The mother of two is often seen crediting her hair loss to the time she spent filming 'Hairspray' movie, even mentioning it in her original Instagram post. She wrote, "Ever since I played Tracy Turnblad in the original Hairspray back in 1988 and they triple-processed and teased my then healthy virgin hair every 2 weeks during filming, my hair was never the same. (Yes, that was all my own hair in the film.) From Hairspray to Hairless."
